Big ol' Cyclo just arrived....

Cool. On/off, huh?

Not the most informative thread you're gonna find today, but I like the device. It looks like a gym bag or a doctor's bag would make a good holder for the tool & pads.

I think I'm polishing tomorrow. Yes I am.

Tom

A little birdy told me that I might be getting one for Christmas. :D Might as well have all three, PC, cyclo, and rotary.

What kind of pads did you get?

I can't remember, do you have a rotary too, Tom? I am in that dilemma of trying to decide whether I should get a rotary to complement my PC or a Cyclo.

Ha Ha! ... Trinity! :lol ... Ha Ha!

Bill, you can be the "High Priest" knighted by the "Order of the Autopian Polishing Empire"

You'll be in a robe made of MF with a garden hose staff and a foam spray gun at your side adorned in cyclo polish pad jewelry!!

That one is up there with picking your sheepskins "like fruit!"

:D oh jeez, it's late. I'm batty. Goodnight.

I have a rotary, but it's the cheap one from Harbor Freight. For $25 it's a great choice for a hobbyist, IMO. I'll do as many cars with a rotary in my life as a pro will do in a month. I used it twice so far; actually the hardest part, to me, is taping the seams and trim. I think that the rotary is easier having used the PC; I have a feel for pad and polish action, and the rest is keeping the tool moving and staying away from edges and trim.

The Cyclo and the PC get far more use in my house mainly because my cars don't need the power of a rotary, so they justify the expense. But I can't justify $200 on a tool I'll use once a year, like a nice DeWalt or Makita rotary.

Cant wait to hear what YOU have to say about it Tom..

LOL, sQuashed, I'm not a perpetual noob for nothin'. The best thing I can say is, if I can do it, anyone can. I'll try to point out any places that a new Cyclo user might make mistakes. The wife's going to work so I won't have her car. I have a new Trailblazer in dark green that I'll use the Cyclo to wax, so I can get the feel of the tool. Tomorrow night I'm going to the PIAA AAA State Championship football game, my alma mater is in it for the first time since I was a senior (in 1972). Saturday I'm working then going to a Xmas party, so maybe Sunday I'll do the Malibu, it's picked up a lot of swirls this summer from charity car washes.

The machine is smaller and a lot lighter that you might expect from the pictures. I set it up and held it against my leg and turned it on, it's beautifully balanced compared to the PC; it appears to dissipate less energy to vibrating itself, and concentrate more toward moving the pads around.

Guess what. I did just that again :D

Cyclo does a great job with its weight distribution. You will really notice it when it's on the paint. It moves easily and doesn't "bite" like a rotary might at times. Cyclo just came out with something like 3 new foam pads and 2-3 new wool type pads as well. The new orange seems cool because it's between the yellow (cutting) and green (polishing). I also have some mf bonnets from them to try.

Good luck in the game!!!

I'm going to watch my local college, UCSB, play Duke in the final 4 of soccer in LA tomorrow night with my wife and kids.

Get the rotary. If you have a PC, the Cyclo would seem like too much of the same thing.:)

That would depend on your paint. I now rarely use the PC because the Cyclo seems to be a lot more effective at genral polishingon my particular vehicles

I almost purchased the Cyclo and very well still may. I am very interested in all comments regarding what I perceive to be a great machine. But I wanted to try the rotary, and yesterday it came. My first project was to detail the top of our washing machine. This 18 year old washing machine had paint on the top that was horrible. Absolutely no luster - looked like it had imbedded detergent, a rough, porous, almost like a sanded surface. It was uncleanable, and claying did nothing. But about 40 mintues with the Makita using Menzerna Intensive polish, DACP, final polish, and finally finished with the Klasse twins. The surface now has an incredible shine and is slick! The only drawback is that my wife thinks I'm sick for polishing the washing machine, even though I assured her I was only practicing for the lawn mower and tractor.

Heh heh, knew I'd post on this thread, huh?

Mosca- Save the Cyclo box, it works pretty well for storage (I never did get a proper case for either of mine, even after all these years).

Thumper- I dunno...I have situations where I need a rotary, but most of the time I use the Cyclos. More than the rotary and my PCs combined. In fact, the Makita just sits in the box unless somebody does something terrible to one of the cars (my wife and I just don't mar the paint enough to ever need its power) and that hardly ever happens. Might be different for a pro, but even then I'd much rather use the Cyclo than a PC, certainly prefer it enough to swallow the purchase price.

Well, it's raining like a sonofagun, been so all day. I did the Christmas tree lights and wasted time on the internet instead. Looks like Sunday's the day to have fun.

Accumulator, I have a nice sized shoulder bag that holds everything pretty snugly and securely, and can be hung from a hook in the garage, so I used that. But the box is a nice size to keep for shipping samples to people.

For anyone considering the deal from TOL, I'll point out that if you choose the items "a la carte", you can get the Cyclo, 4 of each pad, 2 MF suede bonnets, and the velcro pad holders for about $30 less than the "special deal package" they have listed.

Tom

Accumulator - I store my Cyclo in a Makita bag. When I got my Makita it came with a bag so I put the Cyclo in it to see how it fit and it was perfect so I ordered another Makita bag for the Cyclo. I don't know if you remember or not but you were one of the inspirations for my getting the Cyclo instead of the PC. Thanks again. Foris
