HI, i'm newb here, i have a 2004 black mach 1..and it has some tiny clearcoat scratches from dealer prep..although i was suppose to recieve itr off truck!!...anyway i have zaino z2,z5,z6,zfx..but this stuff never got rid of my swirls on my old red 00GT...i wanted to try something different...whats the best stuff for black paint?? i rather fill them then remove clear..car only has 137miles on it..if i use different stuff...can i still use z6?

Check it out and read some articles.

The search function is your friend as well. Zaino isn't going to remove swirls. If you only want to fill them, search for different glazes. The concensus among us is to do it right and remove them and then maintain the swirl free finish.

try NXT, from what ive seen it sure fill some swirls. Im supposed to get my NXT this weekend, so Ill give it a try in a friends car, which she has a lot of swirls. I too prefer filling rather than removing clear. And if NXT works good, then ill be using it like once a month on my car, to keep those swirls hidden and the protection on. Dont know about Z.

i have read tons..nothing says best for black..and cant get a straight answer on the new nxt....ford has a thin layer as it is...removing clear of a 2004 ford is scary!

You aren't removing hardly any clearcoat! Its such a microscopic percentage that you are removing. Some of us have polished heavily clearcoats many times over to not ill effect. Remove them, then and then use proper washing/drying techniques to help eliminate induced swirls.

i have bought the best fieldcrest towels...and still had gotten swirls on my performce red gt...i'm gonna try nothing but microfiber....#9 says its non abbrasive and rounds them off and fills with oils...should i try this then nxt..and can i use my z6 vs quik detailer? i really like the z6

I hate to tell you but you purchased the wrong color for filling swirl only protocol. Black ( I have 3) requires meticulous care. In one year with routine washing even with the best tools, shampoo and technique will still leave your car appearing greyish because of the numerous unrepaired surface marring. The black basecoat will be optically diminished by trying to present itself thru all the marring, filling and protectant.

If the marring is very minimal try a paint cleanser like Clearkote Vanilla Moose, P21S GEPC or Menzerna FP. There is a Sealer Glaze by Mothers that's rather good at filling swirls which is non-abrasive but I would suggest a carnuaba for protecting because of all the fillers and oils in this product. Two of my black vehicles are rarely driven. Why? Black is not a daily driver color IMHO unless it is a expensive paint found on hi-end vehicles (Lexus, Mercs, Audi, etc).

Welcome to Autopia.

i realize now i got the wrong color, i wanted dark shadow grey...i can see dust halfhour after i washed it....i'm in new england its crappy weather..i didnt feel it was superclean enough to start polishing..gonna do it wednsday....was gonna use my # 26 or zaino..but i saw this forum..and kinda wanna try this nxt

Try the NXT and see what happens with the swirls. NXT will definitely make the black blacker. All is not lost. Hang out here and as time passes you will become more informed and less anxious about polishing. The trick with black, especially a daily driver, is to only wash properly. Never, unless you are ScottWax ;), do a quicky wash. You are better off letting the car stay dirty until you can use proper technique. Never QD even a dusty black vehicle. Can you spell - holograms if you do.

As I mentioned before VM and EX is a wonderful combo. :wavey

04 I have a black daily driver and its going to be a struggle. Like Z28 said .. don't QD a dusty black car .. and I won't even use the CCD on mine any more. I had great luck with the Menzerna IP where needed and FP all over. Then finish off with the sealant of choise. I prefer sealant for the simple reason it lasts longer and the less you have to put it on the less your going to mar it.

Spring is comming here soon ( I hope ) and I have numerous winter induced swirls ( ones where the door was shut with the hand on the dusty paint) and I am going to give NXT a try on it after minor Menzerna prep.

Really pay attention to your washing/drying protocol cuz thats where a good portion of the swirls will come from.

My new Porsche C4S cabriolet came to me from the dealer with swirls, water spots and other slight defects. I used Menzerna Intensive Polish, Menzerna Final Polish, Klasse AIO, Klasse SG and finally, P21S carnauba wax. The car now looks great. Yesterday I won the People's Choice award at the annual Windsor Polo & Porsche Event in Vero Beach, Florida.

Listen to blkZ28Conv, HE KNOWS......................!

The beauty of black, is maintenance, maintenance, maintenance....You get to have all that fun !!!

i just bought 3 sheepskin mitts..and like 40 microfiber towels, i cant find the drying micro weave towel, or NXT local i went to 2 walmarts pep boys and autozone no luck, i been hearing good things about Menzerna maybe i should order some

Menzerna FP works very well at knocking down any light marks. I like using Z5, but it doesn't do much except for the very lightest marks. Products like 3M IHG or Meguiars #7 each topped with P21s or Souveran do a great job of hiding too.

i'm in rhode island, i just ordered the zxt...is it crap? i just want something that goes on and off easier that fills, zaino is not real easy..and dont fill crap...but gives an awsome look

Heh keep the Zaino, trust me. I love having a black car, but I hate washing it and then waxing/polishing every two weeks. LOVE the fact that I can wash my car like 11 times and just a spritz of Z6 afterwards and it looks killer again. HOWEVER I do dislike the fact that Zaino's swirl filler I.E. Z5 doesn't do as good as a job as the manufactures claim.

I'm going to give the new Zaino formula a spin and see how that does, shine and swirl-hiding wise, but will more then likely end up using Perfect-It Swirl Mark Remover for Dark Colored Cars. I'd prefer using a less aggressive product a couple times instead of using a more aggressive product once.

But be proud you own a black car. You know what they say, once you go black you never go back. ;)

if the new formular fills i'd buy it...cause your right..1-2 coats last 4ever

I should find out this weekend. However from what I've read from other people most feel that the new formula is only slightly better than the old. But I'm one of those stubborn types that has to try it myself before I'm convinced lol. *Crossing my fingers*

If you just want to fill your swirls I highly recommend Einszett/1z line. You can get a free sample at 1zusa.com just go to the contact page and send them an email. I not sure what product they sent me the bottle just said swirl mark remover but I believe it was their paint polish but it was much better than 3m smr and the scracth x I have previuosly used.
