Best 1 step wax

If you just want a quality cleaner wax thats available OTC, its very hard to beat Mothers.

BUMP on mothers. Get the paste. Id also suggest doing some claying before if you can.

Mothers Cleaner Wax...I may be wrong but I believe it did very well in the Guru Wax Test and was praised by 'Choice' consumer magazine test.

I tried both Moose Max and Nano. Moose Wax get better shine, don't know wabout how they last though. But Nano is pretty smooth, even after 3 weeks on and off rain in Nor Cal.

My vote definately goes for NXT...put down 2 coats and you will be amazed.... reason for me believing its a very good one step wax/sealant..... 1. SO EASY to use. 2. Has "some" cleaning properties. 3. Give a depth and shine that I have found to actually to be better the S100 (IMO). 4. It has a good amount of durability I have seen personally (3 months). 5. Available locally. 6. it has some fillers for swirls so you dont always have to bust out the polishes if you dont have time.

Meguiars ColorX would be my choice. NXT if the paint is already in very good condition.

right as usual...they ColorX great for new and old finishes..great cleaner, so-so on the swirls...decent protection...NXT on good paint tuff to beat...ColorX + NXT is a great combo too

By 1-step product you would mean wax or sealant with cleaning ability. Klasse AIO or Mother's Cleaner wax would be my choices.

So NXT is a cleaner wax? I used it once...did not seem to have much cleaning ability. I was just disappointed with its durability. Didn't seem to last for 3 weeks. It was obvious that it was no longer beading.

Another vote for NXT. It has very light cleaning ability and good durability. Works best if first coat is applied with a PC and a polishing pad. I apply a second coat by hand a day later. Very wet shine and I get 3 months plus of beading.

Meg's NXT. It has light cleaning ability, so it will lightly clean the paint. It also has a nice shine, makes the surface click, smells good, and has decent durability.

And you can buy it at WalMart for $14.

I have to agree I have used it on several cars from other people and they are at about 3 months with strong beading...I guess some people in this forum are having mixed results with durability but I love the stuff. I usually apply NXT with PC and white polish pad, then a couple of days later apply with PC on grey finish pad. The slickness of NXT isnt the greatest for some reason but the finish it gives is amazing to me. The one thing though that I have noticed is the durability seems to outlast the "look", but i guess that's true with most waxes. AIO would be my second choice but without SG there isnt much durability behind AIO.

Mothers reflections!

The BEST product at retail level. If you haven't tried it , you should. I would, however, suggest the mothers cleaner wax as the workhorse because the cleaners are stronger.

You can try also Eagle One nanowax, turtle wax platinum ultra gloss or Meguiars NXT as many others suggested. These 3 products are very close to each other. I think NXT is being recommended a lot because most the people who have used it have not used any of the other 2. Any of these 3 will work fine, but I think reflections is better overall.

Alex, it appears the cleaners in Mothers Reflections are stronger than Mothers Cleaner Wax.

This is from Forrest on Mothers WaxForum:

"Hot Wheels cleaning ability is comparable to 05701 Original Formula Cleaner Wax, less than Reflections Synthetic Wax."

I look forward to trying the new Reflections without cleaners soon to be released.

NXT--> easy use, but doesn't last very long.

Zymol Cleaner Wax --> pretty good at removing oxidation, leaves good protection, but a pain to remove!

Nufinish-->easy to use, last for a long time, but harsh on trimmings :(.

Happy Motoring,

BDawg, I'm with you on the AIO. Cleans Shines and Protects, extreamly well for a one step product. But you would have to order it online.

I've also hear great thinks about Meguiar's colorX and you could pick it up locally. They have nice write-ups on using colorX at Meguiars.com

I remember reading also on waxforum it was the opposite.... :p ;) In fact, some folks use reflections over the sealer/glaze

My personal experience shows they are not even close in cleaning power. In a vehicle with light oxidation, applying the california gold cleaner carnauba with terry applicator required 4 applicators..... They became so dirty that I just had to change the applicator after a few panels. Vehicle washed, but now clayed. Looked "clean" and shiny after the wash, but the cleaner wax showed that was not true.

The pad used to apply reflections to one of the panel in the same vehicle barely got dirty. The vehicle is red, and the carnauba part looked deep and shiny. The reflections panel looked shinier, but more of the LSP shine rather than the paint shine. Cleaner wax to that same panel, then reflections made it look better. The cleaner wax pad got quite dirty where reflections didn't.....

So, if I had to take only one product, it had to be one with at least moderate cleaners. If you can pick 2 or more depending on the vehicle , then it is easy.....

All around: I still insist on the Mothers california gold cleaner wax. The best all arounder based on cleaning ability vs shine. Removal is not bad, but after comparing it to reflections or turtle ultra it surely feels hard.

Best for dark colors, not so much cleaning power: Turtle ultra (very deep), nanowax or NXT (shinier). All of them very easy to apply and remove, with the turtle being the easiest.

Best for light or metallic colors, not so much cleaning power: Reflections, quite easy. NXT second. Reflections being even easier to apply and remove than the turtle ultra.

Beaters: *gulp* NuFinish. I used for over 2 years on new cars and the horror stories about it didn't go beyond urban myth... Granted, mediocre shine and not a year product, but it surely takes a beating..... Ahh, and it makes wonders on bad kept cars ;)
