I have an ad from them and they have this "regency prima" brand bath/wash/hand towels for sale. pretty cheap at around $5/4/3 respectively i think. anybody know if they're any good? I was using yellow microfiber towles from costco and learned from here that costco towels are no good on paint.

:werd: :LOLOL

Seriously, if they are 100% cotton and USA made, they are probably fine for paintwork. There are so many better alternatives though...

zaino's website kept advocating cotton towels from big name stores like BB&B....what are some other, better alternatives? i read about the blue mf towel from exceldetail. should i get a bunch of those instead for paint? the yellow costco mf left a lot of lint when wiping off the final Z8 application.

also, are you suppose to wash mf towels before the first use? if so, then that was my lint problem as i used them right out of the bag.

Excels MFs are very nice, get a few and decide for yourself. Yes, wash first. I've used MFs before washing and so far have had no problems.

The cheap Clean-Rite towels I got from Home Depot have never stopped linting no matter how many times I wash them. Many people wash their towels before first use; I don't, unless I see obvious dirt/lint.

As far as the Excel towels, the Supreme is an excellent towel, and they are a great bang-for-the-buck, I like the more expensive Elites less than the Supremes.

If you saw the inside of a textile mill you'd wash 'em first every time ;)

LOL...they say if you saw the kitchen in a restaurant you'd never eat there, either. I'll try and get over my laziness/hey, it's new! philosophy and wash before using.

whats the difference between the blue and yellow mf towels from exceldetail? they seem to have the same description.

They are the same, just different colors. Some people say the yellows are softer. You can use the coloring to separate uses; interior/exterior, glass/paint, paint/wheels, polish/LSP, etc.

exceldetail blue/yellow MF it is then.

now can you guys recommend a drying towel? i've been using the absorber in the past and it has served me well for the last 4-5 years on the same aborber. i wasn't as anal then and didn't worry much about swirls and marrs in the paint. i was going to buy a new one and use the old one on wheels. when I went into autozone, i bought a giant ww MF towels instead. I didn't wash it prior to first use, but it didn't dry very well at all...i had to go over the same spot many times to get it to dry whereas the absorber dries it in one pass. what do you guys recommend? the biggest car we have is a nissan murano, so i'll need enough for drying that off.

alot of people on here will knock cheap things, including MF's from Costco..I've used em for years w/o issue...

Maximus -

I've used those towels, i think they work great. I use an absorber then follow-up with a pass with the cotton towel. I never did jumped on the MF band wagon and I'm sure they work great but I just personally like the feel of using a nice thick terry cotton towel (im not talking about the cheap autozone/pep boys bag o' towels for $5).

I have used an "absorber" to dry for the past 12 years without any problems (no scratches, swirls etc) i think the absorber is an awesome product and it certainly meets my expectations. Typically i give the initial wipe down with the absorber which sucks up most of the water then I follow with a terry towel for the finishing touch - I've never had a problem using this method. im sure the pro. detailers out there have different methods but to them time is money.

according to zaino's site, i should be spending $10-20 a towel to pamper my car...

"I buy all my high quality towels at stores like Linens and Things and Bed, Bath and Beyond.

I realize that Cannon-Fieldcrest aka (Pillowtex) is no longer in business... but there are plenty of other towels still available. I buy all my Cannon & Fieldcrest towels in the Bath & Linen shops in the bigger stores in the mall. I pay anywhere from $10 to $20 per towel. You can also try Linens and Things or Bed, Bath and Beyond... If you cannot find the Cannon or Fieldcrest line, then any high quality substitute towel from the above stores is acceptable."

PS. Sears, JC Penny & even Target also have some good deals on towels, keep an eye out for the specials. just make sure to cut off any tags and that they are 100% cotton, you shouldn't have any problems.

Cost is not the best judge of quality. Some of my $6 MF towels are better than the absolute best cotton towels I ever purchased.

Zaino is just recommending safe towels for users that may not know better. Many newcomers to the Z system still use old low-quality buffing materials. Sal is just playing it safe by recommending a decent towel without playing favorites. Even though Sal may use MF, he is not in the business of doing endorsements for other detailing businesses selling "enthusiast" quality towels. I know Sal likes the DF Towel a lot, but he doesn't get paid to recommend others to use them. Bottom line, you do not need to spend that much per towel to find a fantastic product. In fact, you should be getting several towels for that price!
