Detailing NY

New member
I was just wondering who would be willing to come to a convention if one was ever held.

It would include hands on detailing sessions, suppliers, etc.....

It would be lots of fun as well.

This wont happen for a while, but i was just wondering if people would be willling to get together.

Airfair or transportation would not be included, but hotel and all sessions would be along with some other perks.

It would depend on where it is.

I've been to both o-t.net national meets, but they were in Houston, which is only a 4 hour drive. Last year, we had a member fly in from Australia! At least half the people who showed lived outside of Texas. I think we had a total of 70 people at one point. We also have regional and city-wide meets. Easy to get good attendance with 40,000+ members!

i'd show up. I think the best use of such an event would be to have it in sync with some other event. IE if there is a big car group that get's togeather (ie viper club :D) we tag along and give workshops or something. The best use of Autopia's tallent, is to spread the knowledge IMO. It's sad to see $90k sports cars with paint jobs less than 4 months old that are all ready swirled and abused and being washed with a wash mitt that's almost black...

Hello all,

It's a great idea. Let's have the convention in Honolulu, HI...:D

That will be the day...:xyxthumbs

With Aloha,

Excellent Idea!

It would be great if some of the vendors would attend - Terry from CMA, Sal from Zaino, etc etc.

Count me in!

definitely count me in.... personally I think it should be held at one of our members' celebrity garages (Brad B. or Redcar GUY) or someplace like that. :up

Well as I also have met up with people on net in real life and it was a lot of fun! Who is heading this up? Autopia? or a member? Also a meeting place it going to have to be big enough to hold a few people the way this poll looks, also what is the total point of this? Just to meet up and hang out, or to have a Detail class? Who would "teach" this class? I would love to know more about the plans of this and meet a few members!

sounds like a great idea to me. i think detailing sessions plus a car show would be cool. i think i'd take a poll to see what time of year would be good for everyone and a central location. of course ranney's location sounds pretty good. just the problem of driving our cars there,:D

I've discussed this with fellow Autopians before and still feel its a great idea. I'll be interested to see what kind of response this poll gets.

As for location, there are two key elements as I see them:

1) Its got to be held someplace easily accessible (that rules out Hawaii, sorry Ranney).

2) Its got to be held someplace people want to go.

While there are lots of nice places I think most folks want to go someplace fun, like Florida, Las Vegas, California, etc. That way attendees can bring their families and make a vacation out of it.

One big reason Las Vegas holds so many conventions is that its a place that's exciting. Orlando and other Florida locations are similar.

Anyway, some food for thought. I look forward to more discussion.

I think that would be cool. I'm up for it anywhere. How bout Dallas? I think that's a good halfway point in the country that has good enough weather to get something like this done.

Isn't SEMA and the show that all the car care industry show their new stuff at, in Las Vegas?

Problem is SEMA was just this past November (its usually held the 1st week of Nov) and is "trade members only" and not open to the public.

I proposed an Autopia Meet at SEMA and got very little response.

hmm... if our affiliation with Autopia could potentially get us in at SEMA, that would be ideal- all the stuff at SEMA deals directly with what autopia is all about! Personally I think this should be looked into more seriously for next year :bow

No, it can't but that doesn't mean we can't get it. I'll put it this way: I do not and have never worked in the Automotive Industry but I've gone to several SEMA shows. It can be done.

The real decision will be - - do we want to organize a convention or seminar as NYD suggests? It would be an event where detailing would be the focus and all activities would be related to detailing.

- OR -

Do we just want to "get together" with other Autopians and party? SEMA is an event which can serve as a magnet to attract many people. It would not be a detailers convention per se but it would appeal to a broad base of Autopians as there is a lot to see and do in Vegas.

Just more stuff to think about...... please consider and comment.
