Sounds like a good idea, since most people voted they would go depending on the price and location. I hope it all works out:)

Dallas is right in the middle of the country, so it would be convienent for a lot of people, but maybe the solution is separate west coast, central and east coast meets.

But Texas is pretty damn close and that is where the majority seem to want to hold it.

Not to mention that costs would be lower than in major cities on the east or west coasts. Washington DC is an awesome place to visit, but it isn't cheap, either. LA and New York are also expensive cities to visit.

Gosh! I didn't even realize this poll existed. I'd be willing to drive up to 500 miles. Just had the Jag club meeting yesterday, and they said that -- for USA-wide events -- midwestern venues get bigger turnouts than any other. But,luckyme, I'm situated so that Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, are all within easy striking distance.

Of course, if folks begin to rally 'round this idea, someone (after choosing a venue) is going to do a whole heckuva lotta work, nailing down a venue, scheduling, sending out registration info, and lots more. But I'm glad this thread has been resurrected.

I'd be in for an east coast meet. I might be able to make Dallas it would just depend on the date. Maybe we should try to set up the regional meetings as well anyone up for an east coast meet?

One important question is:

Do we want regional "meets" or do we want a real convention?

Would you be more willing to attend if it was a party with Autopians or an event with seminars, workshops, mfr demos, maybe a little trade show, stuff like that?

A convention will be national in scale and held prolly only once a year but meets can be held anywhere at any time.

Personally, I have little interest in a "meet" unless its close by but a convention is something I'd go anywhere in the country to attend.

What do you guys think?

Count me in.....

Just as long as I don't HAVE to drive to the convention. Sounds like fun.:bounce

If I had to vote, I'd pick

1) Dallas

2) San Diego

3) LA

Hello all,

It's a great idea. Let's have the convention in Honolulu, HI...:D

Yes! Have it in Hawaii I'll be there in a heartbeat. I can imagine it now . . . meeting people learning more about auto detailing . . . heading out and doing some diving and hiking in between.

I am up for anything, although I would probably be more focused on the detailing than on a vacation so city doesn't matter. Good organization and a great venue is important. If there are seminars, you need a space, if it is hot, it needs to be inside with AC. I like the idea of giving back to the community that we would be visiting, like offering to detail cars for a police force or something like that, people could be in teams or 3 or 4 and it could be a competition for best detailed cop car. At the end of the day the cars could be viewed listing all products used and what detailers worked on it. Assuming most cars are the same, it would be a great way to see the difference in products.

The ideal city seems like a place where there are a few autopians that can work together on organizing this in their location and getting help with vendors, etc. from other memebers.

Does anyone have expierence planing big events like this? Maybe for a car club or something?

I think the city choice should be determined based on where people live... Colorado/Denver is a nice place to hang out, and it has all sorts of stuff for people to do who bring their familes or whatever, but there are only 2 autopians I know of that live here... if it was at a place like this than a lot of people would end up flying... and what would an Autopia convention be without a few cars to detail? (it wouldn't be the same doing a bunch of rentals.. though where we rent from would probably give a HUGE discount :)) I'd pick the area that has the highest density of autopians, as well as quite a few within 5-10 hours driving time. (probably somewhere on the east or west coast)

Could you imagine an everyday, "normal" person walking through the parking lot of the hotel of this proposed convention?

Every car shined up and beautiful like a diamond on four wheels. Every car in showroom condition (probably better).

It would be like some kind of a detailers "Twilight Zone" or something.

Instead of 1% of the cars looking perfect and 99% looking like crap it would be reversed!

I would love to see that! That'd be worth a picture or two...
