I think this bill is the best thing that's happened in the fight against illegal immigration in a very long time. Many people say this is racist or that it unfairly targets Mexicans but in reality, all it does is enforce existing federal law, something the Feds have been given plenty of chances to do and failed to act.

Personally I think that the fact that these people can come into our country illegally, mooch off the system and hard-working people and get better benefits than those who pay their taxes is utterly ridiculous. And don't get me started on the anchor babies.

I can see Texas adopting a law like this in a heartbeat and New Mexico, maybe. California never will and it will continue to be overrun by illegals and hence, it will be bankrupt for the foreseeable future.

I dunno - I don't know what's so hard to understand about illegal immigrant. If it's illegal, it's illegal. While I don't know what the bill entails, I do think Arizona is stepping up and trying to do a job the the Federal Government either chooses not to or isn't competent enough to handle. There are legal means to come into this country. It's also as much blame on US citizens who employ illegals. I think they should be penalized in some fashion as well.

Call me a racist, call me simple-minded, whatever. I'm not a political band-wagonner, but I do think it's about time we as a nation focus on securing our own borders instead of trying to fight everyone else's wars for them.

It's not fair to those of us who work hard to provide and support our families with the things we enjoy to have to pay for illegals and deadbeat citizens to get free services.

OCDinPDX JP you guys have it all wrong Obama says they are not Illegal aliens they are undocumented workers. :D

What is worse than the government not doing their job is they are now using our money to sue Arizona for trying to do the job our government will not do. :wall

In principle, I do support where if someone works (but there is a lot of cash basis deals) that one must check if they are illegal. It is being done more now by the Feds than every before. Unless we adopt a guest worker program (get in line behind everyone else to be citizens), there is not going to real reform. It is impossible to completely seal the borders and many are here.

Americans want low cost labor to do the low skill jobs Enforcing the laws will cause prices to increase.

Not necessarily recently Chrysler and GM got concessions from UAW and they have much lower labor cost but you did not see a reduction in car prices just more profit.

I recently read article that a reporter wrote.
She spend months trying to document the cost of illegals and while she probably missed somethings it was 500 Billion dollars per year to tax payers.

Regardless of where you stand on this issue their will be nothing done to stop it under the current administration.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented worker' is like saying a bank robber made an 'unauthorized withdrawal'.

all good points ... but in reality .. which one of you is going to pick my strawberries and watermelon to keep me and my colon regular

I might have to use that :rofl

It's one thing to come to this country and want to live and assimilate, but the majority of these "illegals" are just trying to get here and they don't/can't adapt.

I work with a guy who moved here from the DR and he was not allowed to speak spanish when he was kid so he would learn english and learn how live like an american. He has major issues with what is going on with the illegals now because he knows it's not easy to get here and stay.

We've got a lot of FREE labor sitting on their a$$e$ in jails and prisons RIGHT NOW.

It is not free. From one report it costs $10K+ per prisoner for rent, food, personal protection, and entertainment.

This is why some think trying to spend $3000 per year and influence when they are young prevents paying a lot more later.

Depends on how you look at it - it's a sunk cost. :D

I purchased a new car in NY in 2002 immediately upon moving into the state. I was required to prove my identity by producing "6 points" and proof of my date of birth by the following schedule:

http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/forms/id82.pdf

I bought the car on the same day we had scheduled to close on a new house, so it was a busy day. Having an out of state driver's license, no NY address, no local utility bill, not realizing that I should have brought my US Passport and Honorable Discharge to buy a Toyota, I had great difficulty "proving" my identity. The sales manager finally fudged the system and accepted my Colorado Fishing License for one point.

Don't get me wrong, I do not believe that I am better than anyone. However, I do have a legitimate claim to undisputed citizenship in this country. I was born here. I've paid Federal and State taxes since I was fourteen years old. I've served in the Marine Corps and had a career in Law Enforcement with a Secret government clearance.

You and I will endure the above described system without complaint, knowing the very serious situations giving rise to these measures.

So, my amigos, when a cop asks you for ID, in your native language... wouldn't want to inconvenience you... shut up, show the man your green card, or get on the bus.

I fail to understand the controversy.

I fail to understand the controversy.

I think it all stems back to the basic premise of innocent until proven guilty and the right to privacy.

For example, some would say they have no issue having the NSA/FBI listen to all their phone conversations. If you are innocent, you have nothing to hide. Yet, in American we have said that is not right most of the time.

We have left many guilty people off preserving rights, etc. and trying to minimize the number of innocent people convicted (plenty of them too).

Civil libertarians take these literally since applied by less than honest people (and there are many) can be used to harass innocent people (profiling, it does happen a lot) despite the noble goal.

We have enough checkpoints to catch illegals if enforced (getting a drivers license, etc).

Both parties really want to court Hispanic voters so that is why it is a mess.

I'm not aware of anyone complaining about being deported erroneously.

That's the real issue! Let's be honest. So why don't we save a lot of hassle and raise the Mexican flag on the state capitols of AZ, TX, NM, CO and SOCAL and be done with it?
