Anyone think Collinite just isn't "pretty" enough for a LSP?

There is no question about it. It is also not very slick to the touch. It's a great bang for the buck durability wise though.

Huh, I always thought it looked good. I did have a problem with durability this spring/summer. Not sure why, but there is one area on my hood that stopped beading after only 3 months. Every other part of the car still beads just fine. I know I did not miss a spot. Very strange.

Was it a spot that gets hot from the engine? Maybe that was the cause.

Which Collinite are you talking about? There are a lot of 915 users out there who think that it competes well with any number of boutique waxes.

The only one that I use is the 915. I think it's an excellent product, but I agree it can't compete in the looks department with the boutique waxes.

I suppose it's possible. It's towards the front and right side of the hood. The car is a Miata. I think the whole hood would get pretty hot with that little engine banging around in there. I've not had this problem with any other LSP.

There's no questioning it's protection but personally it always left me wanting more in the "looks" department.

NHB, jump over to the SuperDoubleCoat 476S (AKA Fleetwax #885). That's the product you seek.

Well, Colly 915 certainly held its own in DaveKG's Big Wax Test against some of the best known boutique waxes!

You beat me to it!!

915 definitely holds up well in the looks department. It isn't my favorite LSP, but it looks just fine!

If I properly preped a car and than applied any of the Collinite waxes to a section of it and a 'boutique" wax to another section none of you would be able to tell me which section was what. Some of you act like there is a dramatic difference in appearance and you probably couldn't tell the difference between Collinite or dog crap. What a joke. I guess Collinite is becoming too common and can be purchased over the counter so now its not cool anymore.

The REASON it became popular is because you could get it OTC pretty easily. Man you're hostile. I could tell the difference between Collinite and dog crap on my car and I bet nearly everyone else here could too.

[Regulars here know that I'm a *BIG* fan of Collinite. I use it, I give it to friends, including pros.. "you gotta try this stuff!" ]

It just depends. Regulars here have heard the following two anectdotes before, so apologies for bringing them up again, but they do show both sides of this. In both cases, the wax in question was 476S, used on metallic basecoat/clear.

1) I prepped my pal Bob's '60 Jag MKII for last year's Stan Heywet Hall Father's Day show. Gooood prep ;) A supposed expert at the show asked Bob what wax I used, and he truthfully said that he couldn't remember. The "expert" replied "It must be Dodo Juice. I use that and *nothing* else looks quite like it! That what is is all right". Bob got a big laugh of of that when I explained the price point diffs.

2) I usually use M16 or 3M Showcar Paste Wax on my wife's silver A8. Instead of that, I decided to use 476S instead. Identical prep as per usual, car should've looked better just from having been "refreshed". But she saw it and, clearly disappointed, immediately asked what wax I'd used. I had not given her any reason to think that I was doing anything other than a maintenance wash, yet she could see that I'd rewaxed it with something she didn't like. She just knows how she likes that paint to look (her real fave is Souveran, and she can explain exactly why just like some concours judge...go figure).

That's a bit harsh. I really like the Collinites and have two of them. They may not be to everyones tastes but they can look great. However, the more aesthetic waxes *can* look better. :2thumbs:

You know I was exaggerating about the dog crap. I wasn't exaggerating when I say that they couldn't tell the difference between Collinite and a boutique wax though. These guys are talking like there is a night and day difference and there isn't if any difference.

There was thread on here years ago where some clown said he could tell the difference between P21S and S100. It was in one of the threads about if p21S and S100 where the same. Talking crap just like this thread.

There ARE differences in wax blends that yield different results. Longevity, warmth, depth etc are all different properties that can be different from waxes. Souveran is warm, where collinite goes for longevity over other properties.

I was exaggerating about the dog crap but not about them being able to tell the difference between Collinite and a boutique wax.

Man I'm having trouble with this new forum set up it's messing up my posts.

You act like I don't know what the supposed differences are. I have tried too may waxes to remember them all. The differences are very minor and you have to really look to see them. They are not dramatic differences like some here are implying.
