Anyone concerned about the future of detailing products? (flame city)

Might have better luck finding NXT in Wally World after Feb 1.

As much as you hate Wally World ... I hate paying for shipping. I've purchased products online that cost $12 and paid $7 for shipping ... I hate it!!!

Wished Wally World would stock NXT, Klasse, PB's, CK, Meg's Pro products, PC's, clay bars in bulk, WW's, ... well you get the idea.

Target is on one side of the freeway and Walmart is on the other. I go to Target. Much nicer stores, similar prices and less crowded.

NHBFAN, look at it this way, I can go to home depot and get some PVC pipes, but it doesn't mean I'm going to redo all the plumbing in my house. And if I did, I'd probably mess it up and call a pro. Odds are, your average joe doesn't know jack about pipes or automotive detailing.

So, let all the inexperienced consumers buy their NXT and put tons of swirl marks and what have you using their dish wash mits and laundry detergents to clean the paint, I gurantee you will still be in business.

~One man’s opinion /observations~

I was working part-time at my Father’s dealership and also detailing Concourse Vintage cars (60s) and a British company came out with, “ a paint sealant that would last for a year or more, all you have to do is wash your car with plain old tap water for a showroom shine (might not be the exact words, but it’s been awhile)

I’m still detailing cars, despite the miracle paint finishes, clear coats, wax / sealant products and etc.

The one thing I am sure of is that although I won’t still be detailing cars in forty years time, some of you might be.

~Hope this helps~

NHBFAN, I don't think we have anything to worry about. I was going to add a few comments, but after reading the reply post from NozeBleedSpeed, there was nothing left to be said. Excellent post NozeBleedSpeed. You missed your calling, you should have been a play writer or somethin. Simply awesome reply.

By the way NozeBleedSpeed, I was in the Navy also. I retired in 1983 after serving 20 yr, 3 wks and 2 dys. My youngest son was born in Jacksonville in 1967. Wow!

foris2, much respect to your salt, sir. Its a small world, until you try to circumnavigate it.

I did my 4 from 80-84. Spent much of them as EOD in the I.O. dodging surface to surface and bass boats. Then vacationed for 11 months in Beirut on ground patrol. It was a glorious time for a young small arms specialist, that did not regard the 10 commandments.

As I now know, it's all in the prep. You can put a miracle wax on an finish without any prep and it won't look nearly as good as a prepped one.

With that being said, an average FULL prep (Wash, Clay, DACP (w/ PC), IP (w/PC), FP (w/PC), AIO and LS or UPP) will take an entire day if not more. No consumer is going to spend 1/8 of that time to do it himself/herself. And if so, they will probably do some steps incorrectly and get discouraged. It takes practice to get good at paint prep and the average customer doesn't want to wax his/her car much less practice getting good at the prep.

Also, I find it quite impossible that 1 or 2 products will effectively be able to replace all those steps. Cleaner wax (for example) is supposed to have mild polishing agents (I do believe) and remove some swirls and whatnot, yet the vast majority of us use a polish first and then a pure carnuaba (or synthetic). We know that the cleaner wax that the average joe will use will NOT get the results we can.

With that being said, if I can pick up a quality wax without having to have to buy it online to complement a good prep, then I'm all for it.

Are restraunts concerned that people can cook at home instead of going out for a meal?

No.

The average consumer either cannot achieve what the chef at a restraunts does, is too lazy to be bothered or both. Same when it comes to car detailing....

I like these little analogies were coming up with, but in all sense, it's true. It's exactly the same principle.
