And this guy calls himself a "professional" detailer.

I work at an auto parts store, so I deal with people coming in all the time asking about products. Well this guy comes in and he buys some tire shine or something and tells me he does detailing. I let him know I detail on the side as well. This guy works for a car wash detailing as well.

I ask him what he uses, he says he uses a wheel. I ask him what kind of buffer he doesnt know the name. He then goes on to tell me that he doesnt even use it because modern cars today dont come with enough clearcoat to even buff. Then he goes on to tell me that he usually gets brand new cars to detail. I was like yea well in that case all you gotta do is just wax it. He was like yea well I dont even bother waxing because none of the carnauba waxes last more than a few days. I quote him saying "All I do is use a spray detailer, dilute it with water and go over the car. Theres really no use using a wax with modern car technology." Keep in mind, hes charging these people $200 for a full "professional detail". At this point I am :wall thinking of how badly this guy is screwing these people out of their money.

Haha, I come across a lot of those people..they are full of such B.S. and are usually arrogant to boot.

proof right there, that there are some detailers that aren't properly educated and probably do half a** work...

That guy is scamming those people!?!?! He needs to be reported and not allowed to do such business. :soscared:

You need to find out who he is doing work for and tell them what he is doing.. Which is obviously nothing.. :idea

Well... thats just the kind of hack work you get when you go to a car wash for a "professional detail". Its all about volume and getting them in and out as fast as possible. I know this since I use to work at one and witnessed such practices firsthand. Alot of times people would drop off their car for a detail and one of the "detailers" wouldn't even bother waxing it at all. I guess a good portion of the buying public needs to wisen up and become educated at what type of people and places they seek out for a so-called professional service. Alot of times, part of the blame lies with the consumer themselves for focusing their attention on nothing more than price. It is these types of consumers who I have no sympathy for and hopefully it'll be a lesson learned that the lowest price can and often does cost them alot more money than if they were to have paid a little bit more from the very beginning.

Which car wash does he work for? Is it that new place Waves down rt. 1 from your store or at the Dean St. wash which is even closer?

Getting paid to do jack, he actually sounds like a professional to me. Sadly his customers don't know any better and he laughs himself to the bank.

what part of Massachusetts?

I used to work at a car wash "detailing" cars (Simoniz in Nashua), what a freakin joke that place was. Finally had enough of the ******** there last week and quit, now I'm on my own trying to get my business up and running. Its funny though to talk to people who think they're detailers..... funny, but kinda sad, oh well.

Dont know what car wash, but he said his buddy just opened a brand new car wash up somewhere in MA near Norwood.

I dont bother with that place on Dean St Car Wash that place is such a joke.

wow....diluted QD as a wax....thats crazy, but you know idiots will keep him in business. i work at a car wash and detail shop, and i can say they arent all bad! we actually do have some very nice products and the only guy i can think of that tried to QD cars like that was stopped immediatly and later fired. we always wax with some pretty good stuff...i think we have like 4 or 5 different supply trucks that come in throughout the week to stock us up

Sounds like a guy around here......

He calls himself a mobile detailer, yet he picks up customers' cars and takes them to the "full service" car wash down the road here. You know, the car washes where they do a quick vac, streak your windows, run your car through the swirl o matic, and dry with dirty rags....

He then puts on tire dressing and a spray wax, sometimes...as he says. He has NO equipment what so ever......

He is more like a middle man. The local wash charges less than 50 bucks, and he charges upwards of $175........

Said he does it PART TIME and makes over $100k a year. My distributor asked me the other day.....

Distributor- "Do you know how to tell when "so and so" is lying"?

Me- "How"

Distributor- "When he opens his mouth"

:rofl :rofl :rofl

Too bad he got busted doing it....hahaha

Now he calls me NON STOP trying to get info on how to go legit........:down

Then there are the ones that come up with their own magical wax they use..

Famous quote: "Its not a wax, its an ACRYLIC!"

And I smile and nod:hm

I dunno about the "magical wax" thing but when people ask me what kind fo wax i use on my car i say "i dont use wax, i use an acrylic sealant". Well....i do, Jeffswerkstatt.

There are "professionals" like this in every field. What gets me is they really think that they know what they're talking about too. You can get into some heated arguments with clowns like these, so I just let them walk away from me thinking they know something.
