CNN reported today that the VAtican issued the 10 commandments of driving, complete with comments.
Well, I am a catholic, so what choice do I have but to obey them.
One of the comments are (according to CNN):

"One part of the document, under the section "Vanity and personal glorification", will not go down well with owners of Ferraris in motor-mad Italy.

"Cars particularly lend themselves to being used by their owners to show off, and as a means for outshining other people and arousing a feeling of envy," it said."

So that's what we have to do - no waxing, no washing! Ride only dirty rustbuckets ye sinners everywhere! If you wash and wax your vanity will damn you to eternal hellfire! :bow
Lord oh Lord! What am I going to do with all the car care products I bought???:wall

Hmmm... does this mean I am going somewhere warm

I am glad the Vatican has time to worry about Envy. Especially with all of the other more pesonal issues going on in the church.

Sell the products to me...:D

O yes! The Vatican cares about everything! But as far as detailing goes... I guess it is ok for a catholic to wash and wax his car if he repents every stroke with the wash mitt and the polisher and cries about his own vanity the whole time  Additional value is added when he kneels on a nailboard while doing so.

Just tell your priest about it in confession and you'll be good. Last time I saw the Pope Mobile, it was looking pretty shiny. I wonder if he's going to heed his own comments.

Now THAT was a good one! :bigups And I also wonder if those black shiny vatican limousines are really kept glossy by prayer alone...

Yeah, we are talking about what's under the Pope's robe!
I thought this would be an anti-environmental rant, but funny.

I'll tell you what's sinfull........the amount of money I've spent over the years on detailing products..... Amen!!!

Each Pope has his soap box I guess. Pope Benedict is very much against vainity. He has spoken out about letting things just be as they are a few times that I can recall. Honestly, with the amount of materialism that I see in the world today, I think a message like this is very necessary.

True, very true - and some of this message about driving IS very useful and necessary - the part where you are called to be polite and curteous to other drivers. Benedict could be one of the most bipolar popes (not in the sense of the mental illness): on the one hand he would like to knock back the catholic church to the times before the Second Concilium Vaticanum but on the other hand he is modern enough to draw motorists into the area of religious pondering. He is definitely conservative, but he enough of an intellectual to know that he has to lead the church into new times.

 Those comments aren't inappropriate. We were just commenting on how this Pope has certian views that seem archaic while also being very modern at the same time. There wasn't anything off topic or derogatory at all about those comments.

Since your post came after mine I assume that your are referring to my comment.
What was not on topic or inappropriate in your opinion?
Or maybe he was referring to a post that was deleted because a mod thought it was inappropriate.
Sometimes not everything is quite as obvious as it seems. :)
