Anbandon Detailing! It's A Sin!

Or maybe he was referring to a post that was deleted because a mod thought it was inappropriate.
Sometimes not everything is quite as obvious as it seems. :)

OH ok, never thought of that! :10:
Could be! I was already worried I had violated some forum rules I didn't know of like "never link religion to detailing..."

Thanks Charles

You are quite welcome.

FWIW, I don't personally think politics or religion are good subjects on a detailing forum, even in the "Off Topic" area.
Of course, you could argue that there is no reason to have an Off Topic forum if you can't "Talk about anything non-detailing related in The Off Topic Forum. Well, almost anything. Detail City rules of conduct still apply in The Off Topic Forums."

Well Charles, I never quite foresaw that a little news tidbit about the Pope and detailing would evolve like this. Frankly, I am not in this forum to discuss religion at length either (at least not until a wax residue stain on my car suddenly looks like the Virgin Mary - or Elvis). But I don't mind discussing it if other people don't.:howdy

 Those comments aren't inappropriate. We were just commenting on how this Pope has certian views that seem archaic while also being very modern at the same time. There wasn't anything off topic or derogatory at all about those comments.

Since your post came after mine I assume that your are referring to my comment.
What was not on topic or inappropriate in your opinion?

None of the posts that are still in this thread are inappropriate. It was the one that I deleted that I was commenting on. Religion and politics are always a tricky topic in online forums, but as long as they stay on topic and stay appropriate, I don't have a problem with them at all.

First, I am Catholic.

Second, my thoughts in reading this were that there are those whose sole purpose is to derive envy from their vehicles. My general belief is that most of us that enjoy detailing are doing it as a part of a belief that we are caring for our vehicles in keeping them in as close to as new condition as possible.

If you believe that all things are gifts from God, then taking care of those gifts is appropriate. Also using those gifts to aid others in maintaining there vehicles is a form of sharing.

We all yearn to gain wisdom which in turn draws you closer to God.

Just some thoughts of mine.

I believe that the church would encourage me to support my family and also spend time in thoughtful meditation. So with those two things in mind, that is why I detail. :) If my clients are proud and boastful people, I can't help that. Just because I'm employed by Mammon, does that make me a bad man? lol

"I don't care if it hails or freezes as long as I got my plastic Jesus on the dashboard of my car.....

I don't care if it gets dark or scary as long as I got my magnetic mary on the dashboard of my car..."

A song I remember from the 60's....

:rofl

First, me too.

Second, you are certainly right. Taking care of something is not a sin. When I brought this thread to the forum I was really not serious about detailing being a sin! And, even more important, I just took the part of the article that dealt with detailing. What the vatican really was going against was road rage and drunk driving, stating that this was not the behaviour of a good christian (or of a memeber of any other denomination) and that love, compassion and care for others should not be abandoned when you turn the key and start the car. Those were the important parts of the article, but I excluded them because I don't think it appropriate to get on a soapbox and preach in this forum. And I am not the preachy type anyway. ;)

AMEN TO ALL THAT :) I agree 100% :rockon
