alcantara seats

No, you need to remove the oils left by the 3M product.

The Zaino needs something to bond to and in the directions it says to wash with Dawn before applying.

The 3M says to wax after using the SMR with not any wax but they intend for the wax to be one of their waxes (3M cleaner wax, show car wax)

So 3M SMR, dawn, Z-7, then Z away.

I had my first 350 Z car the other day with alcantara seats /and leather. I was pretty stressed about how I was going to clean them because they were were really nasty dirty with bad spills of coke all over the owner had let them go like that for months even!

Anyway I used a little lexol cleaner on a sponge and tried not to wet them too much but it was hard not too because the material really soaks up liquid. It seemed to clean them pretty good but took about 4 hours to dry even after I blotted them well with towels and had to redo them(same day) because they needed a second cleaning after they dried .The key was to just keep blotting and not to rub , the material is very delicate it seems .

They actually came out pretty good and the owner was thrilled so I was happy too.

Does anyone have a good recomendation for protecting them? I really wasnt sure what to use ?

You do not have to purchase anything expensive to clean Alcantara seats.

If you do not have an extractor here is a easy way to get excellent results
vacuum the seat

Pre spray (mist with a good multipurpose cleaner to dissolve soiling- do not saturate)

Use a micro fiber towel and and rub briskly back and forth to remove soiling, mist folex to remove coffee stains. Keep repeating if you still have soiling

Spray(mist) on seat or directly in hot water some foam shampoo
Immerse microfiber towel in hot water wring out nearly dry (damp) and hot and again briskly rub back and forth the folded towel over the seat. Rinse the towel frequently.

A final wipe down with hot towel clean water

Immediately take a large bath towel and rub dry the seat dry (remove excess moisture)

Use a hair dryer and accelerate drying

If you want to purchase a suede cleaner... you can find an inexpensive really great suede cleaner at your local shoe repair shop.

Alcantara /Escaine is a synthetic faux suede and is durable, easy to clean. King Ranch is Leather (analine finish) scratches, stains and spots easily and requires a different approach to cleaning. You should not wet, scrub, spray on harsh products on a King Ranch Leather as you can change the color and appearance of the leather. Unfortunately many King Ranch owners do not understand that this kind of leather is designed to take on a patina and wear and show aging over time. To avoid any problems suggest you use the King Ranch Leather Conditioner or cleaner which you can purchase from your local Ford Dealer.
