What kind of Alcahol are yall using?

i know its to clean surfaces to prep them for polishing and waxing but i was wanted to know more about the Alcahol... where can i get it? what kind is best? how do i dilute it? thanks

I'm using Iso-Propyl Alcohol (or Isopropanol or IPA) and use them to wipe down polish residue (including oil left by the polish) to check whether I've removed all removable scratch or swirl or not.

Dilute it into 50:50 using distilled water (pure H2O). I believe that it should be available in your local chemical store or pharmacy store.

go down to your nearest walgreens or pharmacy of ur choice, get a 32 ouncer for 1.69, replace the top with a spray nozzle and you're all set...when u do a 50/50 wipedown, do what artronnie said, dilute it..i/e...1oz isopropyl alcohol/ 1oz distilled water

Will this be ok? (it's 99.5%)

The 91% IPA is quite strong. Nitrile gloves, for example, are not adequate when working with it.

I use that mixed 50/50 with distilled water for wipedowns w/ and MF after polishing. I never wear gloves, should I?

The 50% isn't nearly as strong as the 91%, but it'll still dry your skin out a bit. I suppose it depends on how much you are exposed to.

great example of the oils in polish being washed off'ed.

Well for one, if you work them long enough, the oils are all broken down (3.5 to 4.5 mins each is what I spend) and I don't finish with that.

I start applying others by hand such as Glare Micro Finish and Pro polish which will prepare the surface for sealing and then a coat of pro polish again seals it

I can't use IPA on them cause the fillers will be removed

So because I don't use IPA with the Glare, the fillers get locked in and the paint protected and the fillers never come back out

My usual regime is full correction and extreme at that where I will do three to five steps by machine (last is 106ff usually) then two to three steps by hand with either Driven to Perfection Auto polish applied twice (1 x as a polish, 1 x as a sealant), the Glare twins, Permagard Severely and PD5000 (same result as glare twins) , Toughseal step 1 and 2 or Ultra Gloss superpolish and Prima Amigo then sealed with something else

There are no fillers in any of the Menzerna polishes or the Prima bundle either and so when broken down fully and burnished at 600 to 850 rpm for that many minutes, the oils are pretty much gone or well broken down and then the next two to three hand applied products will remove all those oils completely.

perhaps if I was to just do a two step with SIP and 106, then yeah I would probably IPA just to make sure but I don't do that very often

Most customers of mine want two to six coats of sealer applied so I have the car for two to five days.
