A black certified pre-owned (LOL) Audi

GOT PREP?
This car was purchased as a “Certified Pre-Owned� vehicle�it did have low-mileage and was in great mechanical condition (Audi maintained, all records, etc). The exterior left a bit to be desired in terms of its condition. We had three days to recondition this vehicle inside and out�we needed every minute!



We used the following process for the exterior (no pics of the interior, but it was steamed, extracted, etc).



Wash

Clay

Meguiars #105/twisted wool/1700 RPM’s (x2 in some areas)

SIP/white LLC pad/1500 RPM’s

3M UF SE/PC/white LC LP pad/SPEED6

Meguiars #21

Meguiars #135 to clean up streaking/aid removal

Tires are dressed with Malco Aqua Bead

Wheels were cleaned and then polished/sealed with Optimum poli-seal

This was part of the rear quarter panel�both rear quarters, the rear bumper, front bumper, DS front quarter, and parts of the roof had all been repainted. The quality of the paint was good, but the finishing, or lack there of was horrible.

Here are the afters—we were able to remove most of the marring with the exception of a few RIDS that were just too deep to be safely removed.

Sorry about the #21 haze—it just would not go away no matter how or what I wiped it with. I know that it will be gone once it fully cures and the car is washed, but it is bothersome on some paints.

I would guess that we had about 14 hours in the paint alone--the interior took about 5.



The owner was floored!

So you're using the UltraFina via PC..has it replace the Menzerna?



All that paintwork on an RS6 makes me thing it's been ridden hard and put away wet...hope the new owner treats it a little better.

That thing was swirl city and now it looks better than new! Unbelieveable work.



How are you liking the M105? I have been doing some testing with it lately, but haven't been able to use it on a dark colored car yet. It seems really nice so far.

If I am not mistaken, this is an A4/S4/RS4.

I find that when you need to *really* level paint, twisted wool is the only remedy. I can do most most work with different grades foam/compounds, but twaited wool will really remove some film build! :D



I have been using the UF SE for a while, but it hasn't replaced the Menzerna *for me.* I will use it if I am finishing via rotary, but it took a bit of adjusting my process to make it work for me. I find that UF SE doesn't have as much cut as PO106FF so it makes it harder for me to use it during my details(finishing with a PC). It really just depends on the paint and what my first step is.

I am just about finished with my first qt, but I love it so far. If one is using wool, of any cut it is just awesome. With a foam pad I find that the Meguiars pad (yellow) is best suited for the compound. The foam *must* stay clean as the compound will glue/ckae up on the paint--I tend to clean the pad after each panel.

Ah, OK...could be, I dunno from the little ones ;) been too long since I had one.



Heh heh, I *do* know that *any* S-car that's had that much paintwork so early in life probably has a story to tell (note my S8's been deered :o ).
