A black 350Z in "not that bad" condition

EBPcivicsi

GOT PREP?
Greetings all, hope everyone is doing well! I can't get on the forums as much as I would like, but I guess that's a good thing.

I am sure that everyone here that detils for a living cringes when they hear, "it's not that bad" over the phone...it's *always* that bad, or worse!

We pulled the car into the wash bay and began to diagnose the paint defect. We knew that the dealer had at least “waxed” the paint as we could see a bit of residual build up in certain areas (around a few badges). This let us know that we wouldn’t know the true condition of the paint until after we washed away the “fillers” in the dealerships “wax.”

Initial inspection:

We then wash the vehicle—foaming with a solution we use to strip any and all traces of wax or sealant.

After she is rinsed we pull back the curtain and begin claying…

Clean clay:

Each bar was used on half the vehicle—definitely a few bonded contaminants.

We then carefully dry the car, making sure to blow all cracks/crevices…

Now that the car has been stripped of all fillers and oils we can truly assess that condition of the paint—notice that it looks worse than the initial inspection!

We then moved the vehicle into a detailing bay and started to do a few test spots..

We used a lot of M105/M205 and then sealed with UPP

ebpcivicsi- Hey, glad to see you posting :wavey

That turned out great! Those colors can be a little challenging to inspect, huh? ;)

The tire dressing is a bit much for my taste, but that's just me.

Is the pink stuff in your foamer the same as the pink shampoo you sent me?

Oh, and I love your shop, really envy that curtain around your wash bay!

BTW, have you ever PPFed an "old body style" (mid-'90s, "square") Tahoe/Suburban? As in, do you already have the patterns for the usual places? Heh heh, no way can I get Accumulatorette to drive this one down to your shop :grinno:

Thanks guys! Nice to see some familiar faces around here.

Accumulator, yep we have done a few. The bumpers are all chrome, right? Seems like we have done a bunch of just hood, fenders, and the square lights on those????

You are right about the colors--so hard to *truely* inspect! The tire dressing believe it or not is the same malco aquabead that we usually use--put it on a yokohoma, michelin, bf goodwrench, or pirelli and you have the above scenario. :D

Their is a touch of the pink stuff that I sent you in the foamer, but the majority of it is their "bug remover." Works great at stripping *everything* off of the paint.

Thanks again guys!

Wow! That thing turned out great! Nice work!

I love when the customers say "it's not that bad" or, "it's a new car". :D

FYI...370Z :D hehehehe

Well, mine is a "Z71" with body-color everything. But what/all I need to do are the "usual areas people grab" on the door pillars by the rear edge of the windows. And it doesn't need to turn out like it would if a pro like you did it ;)

Oh, back more on-topic: any issues getting all the M205 oils off before doing the UPP?

Great write up and I too love your wash bay. It's amazing what the true condition of the paint is once it's stripped of any fillers.

Very nice job on a great looking car. I almost bought one, but that was the "kid" in me looking...not practical for me and my wife...LOL

So good to see your post!!! :bow Looks amazing now Joe.

PS: When foaming, what was the ratio for that tar remover? If you don't mind me asking.

Thanks

Thanks guys!

Cam07, we use Malco aquabead--great product IMO.

tdekany, we use it about 4:1 on something like that, then adjust accordingly for varying levels of what we call "juice." :D

I love that car! If I was just either older or pre wife/kids. Nice work, just goes to show how much dealer applied goo can cover up. Kinda like the make up that TV preachers wife use to cake on.
