A 330i For A Fellow Member...Thoughts on UDM and 3.01

I spent from 8 to 8 on this car for a fellow member that may or may not chime in. The car is a year old and a daily driver. It was covered in deep scratches and swirls (thank you body shop) on the outside. Because the owner commutes everyday with his good friend, it also had it's fair share of hair that had been shed.

Car wash deep polished with Menzerna 3.01, orange CCS on the rotary and polished with 106ff and green CCS on the rotary. It was sealed with JW Trigger. Interior was steam cleaned and treated with 303. Exhaust tips polished with Flitz. Tires treated to 303.

Here are the before shots:

Lunch was provided (and was the very good too):

Had to do a little wet sanding as the body shop didn't (1500 followed by 2000 and IP with a wool pad):

The bumpers were processed using the UDM (Ultimate Detailing Machine) as they needed a lot of correction and there are so many curves that I didn't feel good about using the rotary on them. Menzerna PO83(3.01) was used with orange and white pads. The UDM seemed to vibrate about the same as a PC does but it's different. The PC leaves my hands tingling in a bad way where the UDM gives me the "motorcycle at high RPM" kind of feel or not objectionable. Could it be better? I think so. It has great power and doesn't bog until you *really* lean on it.

3.01 might just be Menzerna's best medium polish. It has a work time of forever, cuts well, doesn't dust and wipes away easily. What more can you ask for? Yeah, it finishes well too.;)

The UDM was delivered to me on Thursday morning and came with a cool bag, pads, backing plate and wrench. You just may thing you have a PC in your hands. Are there laws against that?:D The switch seems built to last and never did I have an accidental movement of it. The only issues I have are the vibration (could be better/less) and the speed control is kind of tight and distracting to adjust. Both could be pre production glitches. David seems to have a winner on his hands here once the kinks are ironed out.

The paint was decontaminated using the High Tech Sponge which made short work of cleaning the paint. It's so much faster than clay that it's a no brainer. It was my first time using it so this may have been an error on my part but it does cause some slight marring to paint similar to what a heavy duty clay does. Overall though, I'd take that negative for the trade in speed.

Comments/questions?

Beautiful work on the wet-sanding.:bigups

Big props on the fine polishing work too especially the trunk...pre-LSP.

Car looks great...

I'm looking to try out some Menzerna stuff, mostly 106FF... where is a good place that sells all of their polishes ?

autogeek just started carrying most of the menzerna line, but there are still a couple things you have to import.

Thanks Bryan.

Sean, it cuts like IP and finishes like FPII which makes it very versatile. This product has work times like Optimum polishes and dust levels that match it IMO.

Almost like a wonder-polish :)?

Where did you get yours from?

Nice correction there my friend. Now it´s time to test the RD3.02 ;)

Thanks! If I could get some without feeling ROBBED I'd love to give it a go. For $120+ per quart though I'll pass/wait.
