5 Rotten Months on Megs # 21

Last fall I bought a jug of #21 to try as my winter sealant. I did a light polishing with SSR1 and then topped the surface off with a coat of sealant. This Odyssey Van is my daily driver and it sits out 24/7. I did this winter prep just before Halloween in the event some little devil decided to have fun at my expense.

Since that time the vehicle has been driven daily, subjected to a trip to Florida (over 3000 miles return), tons of salt, plus frequent wand type washes and numerous touchless tunnel washes.

It has not been QD'd nor has there been any other spray wax applied.

We have had a good long shot of snow and sloppy roads this spring and finally today it was warm enough to get out the hose and give it a good wash. I was quite amazed and very pleased as to how the #21 was standing up and how even after 5 hard months it still beaded water and was quite smooth to the touch. The attached pics will show the vehicle after a wash with Megs 00 car wash and the tires dressed. I have not used a QD or anything else other than the wash and waffleweave.

Thanks for the durability update! I am surprised it lasted that long, as I usually got only 4 months but at any rate, very impressive. #21 has a very nice look to it, nice durability, and IMHO is one of meguiars better products. Keep us in the loop!

Hey I like 845 and have recommended it to numerous neighbours who ask for advice. To be honest I really was amazed myself by the way #21 stood up. I actually expected it to be gone especially considering how easy it is to apply. I am actually disappointed that I didn't do a couple of panels in 845 or some other product for comparison purposes. My garage queen never goes out in the bad stuff and in fact has only had about 500 miles on it since October. It is covered in Natty's right now but of course if it stays in a garage durability is not an issue.

Inzane, I find it real easy to apply and buff off. I used #20 and still have some but to me the application process was a bit of a pain. I read some good reviews of #21 and felt I'd give it a try. I think it is much wetter looking as well as being more durable.

What would you feel is better #21 or NXT as far as looks??? I have to detail a yellow Ferrari this weekend and was wondering what to use.

I use both #21 and NXT. I believe NXT has the better shine initially. #21 looks almost as good and that look seems lasts much longer.

Interesting question. At some point I recall someone saying #21 was more like NXT Paste rather than NXT liquid. Although I liked NXT Liquid I probably found #21 more to my liking. If I was doing a yellow Ferrari I probably would be reaching for a carnauba but in all honesty I can't tell you why. I guess I'm just an old fart and still think of fine carnaubas with fine vehicles. I know that's not correct anymore as there are some fantastic sealants but that is the way I'm wired. My Lexus carries Carnaubas and my daily driver gets sealants???

Scott: Don't know how this stuff would last in the warm Texas climate...I was interested as to how it would measure against Jeff Werkstatt's Acrylic Jett? I would expect #21 to be easier on application.

The durability did surprise me as the weather has really been crappy this spring and the tunnel wash I use has to be using some awfully strong soaps.

I wouldn't put nxt paste over #21 though. I've used it twice on my beater and i don't know if i'm not doing it correctly, but it seems like NXT is diminishing #21's protection because of it's light cleaning capabilities. I would go #21 & #26 if you want to go that route, or just go with NXT by itself.

Don't think anyone suggested NXT Paste over #21. You are right though that one shouldn't put anything with any cleaning properties over #21.

I definitely agree.

I agree also. #21 looks fine under Pin. Souveran. It's the only sealant I would put under PS. Right now I am on straight PS, PCM, and Spray PS.

It seems to be hard to make a sealant look good AND be durable on dark colors, especially black. 21 seems to be a nice mix...It's Mr. Reliable on my solid black vehicle.

I think it's one of Meg's best products.

My son just bought a new Black Equinox and he has not been a fanatic about taking care of his vehicles (he washes regularly but that's it) and I am coming to think that # 21 would be best for him with either a good QD or a booster like Duragloss AW.

#21 is quite easy and forgiving to use and that makes for a quick process.
