#425... I hate when people say WOW!

OK, I see it now. As it happens, I just got a gallon :o , came FedEx Ground, and there was some leakage in the box...looks like maybe it froze, expanded, and leaked out some...although it seems like the box was upside-down at some point, despite the arrows on the box.

It always seems to be hit or miss with shipping these products. Since the FK starter kit that was enclosed with this shipment arrived intact, I'm guessing mishandling caused the bottle to crack open near the bottom....and freezing didn't occur this time.

I have had some Z2Pro arrive "clumpy", and suspect freezing during transit.

In the future I plan on taking inventory late summer and restocking during the warmer months, as suggested in other posts.

Man, you guys stop teasing us. I have 1 gallon coming by this next week and I have 4oz sitting on my desktop. I havent had a chance to use it. The temp sux arse here :(

I had used the 425 twice on my Jeep, then I drove in the rain the other day... and the day after that without any attention the paint hardly had any water spots or dirt. The plastic trim & bumpers are a different story. I also did the wheels with 425, makes a huge difference on how much of the go old Chrysler brake dust sticks to the front wheels. I really cant wait till the weather breaks so I can give both vehicles the full FK1 treatment... polish/sealant/wax/

Can Z2 be applied after this stuff? I'm considering whether to spring for this or Z8. This is less expensive and sounds like it is maybe a smidge better in the gloss/slickness. But I don't see where anyone has comments on whether it would mess up further layering of Z2.

Does FK 425 have any oil or silicone (good or bad) used as appearance enhancers in it?

It sounds like a polymer formulation that is not dependent on oils and silicone for its reported excellent appearance. The product states "Body Shop Safe".

Does it wash off during cleaning or does it maintain its appearance like Z8 (I know these are different product classes Z8-Spray Sealant FK 425 - QD).

TIA for any insight. :wavey

My experiance with 425 is limited, two days after driving in the rain my paint ALMOST looked the same as when I had just applied 425. The hood was less slick to the touch but all side panels still had the same slickness.

That MSDS wasn't much help, Spilch, it lists hazardous ingredients only as "Proprietary Additives--100%"! The patent formulations all seem to have wax in them, although in that context, I'm not sure it's the same thing as we refer to here as "wax".

Sorry, Spilch, really, thanks for linking that stuff--I didn't realize that FK had all their MSDS's online, and patents are always fun to read. :)

Thanks Seth. :bow

Now this article ( http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-...L&s1=5300141.WKU.&OS=PN/5300141&RS=PN/5300141) opens another can of worms. What does "wax" mean"?

Is polymeric used here to mean non-carnuaba polymers (i.e. Zaino) or used to describe a carnuaba-like (natural wax) ingredients? :nixweiss

Is this a spray sealant in the same family as Z8 or it a spray wax similiar to Pinnacle Crystal Mist or OCW? A variant of both?

Of course this is all relative and only interesting for discussion and potential slotting into one's detailing regimen.

If the product works, it works. Just curious. :D

I'd say neither. It's more of a regular QD that repels dust better and offers some slight measure of protection but not like the others you mentioned.

Although I have never used FK FX-100 Ultra Spray Glaze Sealant; I think that may be more like the ones you mentioned as far as protection offering abilities.

But again, so is Eagle One Wax As U Dry and Mothers FX Spray Wax.

How much protection each one offers, what their contents are, what they are compatible with and their visual characteristics is another discussion.

I'm quite pleased with how well #425 holds up after washing... and driving through heavy rain... and over extremely wet/salty roads. For a product labeled as a "QD", it is very good in my opinion.

Right now, I have one vehicle protected with Z2/Z8/Z6, and another with Mothers FX Synwax/Top Coat/425. Both look equally good after washing.

Well, add me to the list of people who are favorably impressed with FK425.

Spilchy was kind enough to send me a sample (thanks again!) and I tried it out on a few panels of the MPV the other day. I did the hood, rear hatch, and both bumper covers with FK 425, I did the rest of the MPV with KSG after a light claying with Sonus green.

Yeah it really *is* slick! Slicker than the adjacent panels that I put a fresh coat of KSG on and by a wide margin. I'll compare it with 4* UGE next time I do the S8 but I expect the FK 425 to be superior.

Didn't notice any appearance difference, but a) the Mazda silver with a sealant generally looks OK or *not* OK and the MPV is looking OK these days and b) I wasn't really *looking* for a difference as in making a concentrated effort to detect one. It's not like I saw a sudden difference between the hood (FK 425) and the front fenders (KSG) but I never expected to.

One weird thing I noticed was that rather than repelling dust/etc. it seemed to *attract* it on the rear bumper cover  The adjacent quarter panels (metal), just treated with KSG, didn't have any pronounced attraction. But the plastic bumper cover had a *lot* of soil-type dust on it when I got back from an outing with the dogs. I did *not* notice this on the front bumper cover (plastic) or the hood (metal). Weird; I'll be keeping an eye on this. If I had to take a guess, I'd say that I wasn't careful enough buffing the bumper cover after applying the FK 425. Perhaps it just goes to show that this stuff isn't utterly idiot-proof (heh heh, leave it to me to discover this :o ) and one shouldn't be too careless about buffing FK 425.

I'm sorta looking forward to the next batch of bad weather; I'll keep an eye out for differences between the FK 425 panels and the KSG ones.

I *will* be ordering the FK 425.

Hi White F150,

Can you compare #425 with Z8 in terms of appearance.

Have you tried the #425 on your Zaino vehicle for comparison with Z8?

TIA

I used 425 yesterday and you'll just have to hate me.

WOW!!

LOL, that is funny. You couldn't help yourself could you? Exactly my feeling. My last sealant application was almost a month ago. I have only been applying #425 after each wash and my paint is still very slick.

Still a very happy camper here!

Hmmmm, sounds to me like you put the FK 425 on backwards? :LOLOL
