4" pads?

Did you guys expect to use them and not get any marring? There designed to cut. Dangit, if those of you who are inexperienced with certain products, dont buy them until you have done some research!

Yellow pad compounds have a purpose, theyre designed to quickly and EFFECTIVELY cut a surface, in very short order. Especially a 4" pad!

I was introduced to this GMC about a year or so ago. It happened to reside adjacent to a sprinkler system, and it was not a daily driver. So there it sat, day in and day out, getting watered, and etched. If it were not for the 4" yellow 1.25" pads, I'd probably still be polishing it out. Thank you 4" yellow pad(s)!!

Glad they work so well for you, Patrick. But for me, I get *much* less marring, hazing, etc. with wool. Even heavy twisted wool compounding pads mar less (and cut more!), run cooler, etc. than yellow foam. And with small PFW being available now for the PC, yellow pads are pretty much obsolete.

A lot of us have used yellow pads, and if you dig up some old C & B's people will find that they weren't too uncommon a year or two ago. It's just that the last couple of members asking about 4" pads have only used their PC/UDM once or twice. I just feel uneasy recommending that they toss a 4" yellow pad on their PC until they have a little bit of respect for the extra cut the 4" pad will give them.

With all due respect Supe, I don't think anyone wants to run twisted wool on their PC and the 3.5" PWC concept on a PC has only recently been experimented with (thanks Accumulator!). You're pretty comfortable with wool but it's going to take a while for the old notion that wool is dangerous to die. I will say that you have done more to promote and educate about wool (here on Autopia) than almost anyone else, although the sheep probably don't care for your recommendations about wool pads ;)

Different strokes for different folks, Patrick. I too am glad the yellow pads worked for you. When I ordered the yellows, I "knew" what to expect, but until I actually put the pad to the paint, so to speak, I wasn't quite sure what I'd get. Bottom line is this, use what works best for you and your particular situation. Please do me one favor next time...don't assume that everyone just orders products on a whim without researching them and then condescend to them once they express their opinion. Be cool, man.
