Vega- Hey, that`s good progress, and !yeah! on the walking...about the best single thing anybody can do IMO.
IMO too many of the dietary "guidelines" (another of those intentional scare-quotes) are BS too...e.g., IMO the govt. food pyramid is about as valid as most of the stuff the Govt. tells ya to do/not

IIRC they`re still nixing whole milk (despite all the recent Med. Journal studies) and pushing Omega 6 fatty acids as if they worked like the Omega 3s.
I`m all in favor of Cheat Days, as long as they don`t stretch out to the point of hindering progress. Heh heh, hence my six-week Cheat Period every year! And Easter candy, BDay cakes...mmmm I`m on-board for plenty of the stuff I tease Ron about, just in moderation.
Yeah, our dogs need a *LOT* of activity, awfully high-maintenance breed in that regard (and they`ll destroy the house if they don`t get it). Being able to lift/carry them as needed is motivation for staying fit too, I`ve had to carry a large injured dog a *LONG* way a few times and it was simply a do-or-die situation.
That "can you put on your underwear?" thing has made me wonder about most people too...it never occurred to be until recently that folks would have to sit/lean/whatever when getting (un)dressed. Ditto for washing/drying one`s feet in the shower, don`t people just lift their leg up and stand on the other one? I gather, "not"... I don`t do much balance work at all, but I do some, apparently it`s enough.
Strengthening move for standing on one leg- While standing and holding on to something stable, hold a db or weight plate on the top of one thigh enough behind the knee for comfort; slowly raise leg up as high as possible and hold for a second or two; lower leg even slower than you raised it but don`t quite lower it enough that the foot touches the ground; repeat for reps, but only do one set (to absolute failure); repeat for other leg. Every other workout I add an elastic resistance band to add additional and progressive resistance (this type of progressive resistance offers a better match to the strength curve of the Rectus Femoris, which seldom gets much work anyhow).
Ronkh- Yeah, I figured you were on an Rx regimen for the steroids. Another case of somebody who *needs* a certain substance having a better grasp of the situation than people who use such stuff for the wrong reasons.
And I bet the seafood down there is great and those steaks you always post pix of look tasty too! See, I do appreciate such stuff even if I give you a hard time about it
