2010 Spirit Special Edition single stage BLACK

I'm in a debate with a friend who bought this service and plans on never waxing his vehicle for the next 5+ years...

Can you please steer me into evidence of whether this is a legit service or if it really works? Thanks

Teflon is useless in car care products. It's nothing more than pure marketing hype to sell below average products to uninformed buyers. The fact is for the teflon resin to be a viable component it must be "sintered" at 640 degrees. "Sintering" is the bonding of the resin to the surface, so unless you literally applying the product with a flame thrower it's useless. Can the teflon resin be wiped on a car? Yes. Will it provide the finish any protection? No.

Actually I've searched a couple days ago and didn't find much though in that time a topic has stated...

In fairness, I'm talking more about the teflon coating services instead of the teflon added to car wax products.

Sure, you can PTFE (Teflon) coat your car but if it was done properly the paint would be blistered and burned off by the heat.

Basically no, it's a ripoff.

Your friend bought the service? From whom? They most likely used the products we are talking about, a sealant with PTFE additives . . . it's not true "teflon coating" per se.

If they claim it lasts 5 years they must honor that by refunding or reapplying as necessary. Read the fine print of the 5 year warranty and let us know.

This 2010 Spirtit Special Edition (424 sq. in.) was detailed a year ago and has been washed only once since then. This was a "clean and seal" job only, on single stage paint and brushed stainless steel (not worth breaking out the Flex 3401 buffer). There were a few RIDS that I didn't try to get out (mostly cosmetic surface marring in the stainless steel).

Condition:
> Single stage medium gloss black paint (not flat, not high gloss): fair amount of orange peel, a few RIDS, general light dirt, light oil/grease coating
> Single stage textured gloss black paint: a few RIDS, general light dirt, light oil and grease coating
> Brushed stainless steel: a few RIDS, heavy carbon deposits in a few places, light oil/grease coating
> Black molded plastics: getting dull looking, light oil/grease coating

Products Used:
> LA's Totally Awesome Cleaner (5:1)
> Dawn Power Dissolver
> Scotch-Brite Scrubber Sponge
> Sam's Club MF cloths
> Barkeepers Friend Stainless Steel Cleaner
> Meguiars NXT 2.0 Sealant

Process:
> Single bucket wash method.
> Wash all surfaces with LA's TA Cleaner; rinse.
> Spot clean stubborn SS areas with Dawn Power Dissolver; Scotch-Brite scrubber side as needed.
> On SS surfaces, follow with Barkeepers Friend (sponge side only, very light pressure)
> Rinse all surfaces until free of cleaners; dry with MF cloth
> NXT 2.0 Sealant on all sufaces (paint and SS) - two coats on paint, one coat on SS. Remove/buff with MF cloth.

Total exterior time: 2.5 hours
Interior time: 3 hours (sorry, no pics)

On to the exterior pics (sorry, only a few before shots).
