2008 Ferrari 599 GTB... spit-shined

really beautiful work. i thoroughly enjoyed the write-up as well as it was very informative - thank you.

your spit-shine technique sounds very promising...and VERY time consuming. just the time i used to spend on my jump-boots for my Class A uniform was crazy. I can't imagine doing all that paint. would something like a PC with a finishing/no-cut pad work? or do u really find nothing gives better results than a nice mf?

thanx for the info and those pre-lsp shots were lovely - beautiful body lines and you captured them all. if only the computer screen did justice to the work you and other top-notch guys did...

Thanks buddy! I thought about using a finishing pad with the rotary to do it, but after 3 days of working on that car I didn't want to experiment with it :nervous2:. I suspect that it would work, but then again maybe not because I tried it with the foam applicator and wasn't getting anywhere...

where do yo buy the organizone products at?

It's a Belgian company called Chrisal International and the distributor here in Hungary is Organizone. They have a wide range of anti-allergy and other bio products. They're not specifically geared towards the car industry but I've found all the products I use from them to be outstanding for detailing. Especially they're carpet cleaner. And the best thing is that they're all 100% bio!

Incredible job!

So do you apply the wax, and then let it cure overnight (i.e. do not buff it off) and then the next morning spit shine? The results are extraordinary!

Thanks! No you don't need to let it sit overnight, you only have to apply the wax, let it dry, buff it off and then let it cure completely before you start to spit shine it. This gives you the foundation to start spit shining... without it it's pretty hard to start because the wax won't stick to the paint with this method otherwise.

Nice job on a beautiful car.:bigups

I'm surprised you found the clear to be so hard I've done a 599 and did not find it to be hard at all??

Also you could save a ton of time by working in the waxes with an orbital instead of by hand. Work smarter not harder and you'll also get better results as it will go on thinner, more evenly as well as no build up in cracks and such.:xyxthumbs

Again nice work, the car really turned out great. Don't mean to sound critical, just not sure if you've considered other options like that.

Thanks Josh! I have an orbital but you can't apply Swissvax with it ;). Besides, for this technique I seriously doubt a bulky orbital would give me the same results as doing it by hand. I may try doing it with the Makita and a finishing pad next time, but from experience, spit shining only works when you do it by hand.

wow i haven't seen a spit shine like that since the boot monkey on victory drive at fort benning! good ole vd drive. apollo i don't think anyone here can uterly realize what it takes to have that kinda of patience. ok now im impressed some more. im thinking what i can do to top this technique and some of todd helme's. anyway outstanding. ill bet you were standing tall on that one! by the way i liked that orange hat! great work man!

I read your whole process but I guess I fail to understand the whole "spit shine" idea of what you're doing with the car?

Are you just rubbing the wax in till it's gone? or are you actually spitting on the pad?

Please clearify
