2004 MDX vs. a polishing maraton!

-My neighbour traded his 04 TL in for an 04 MDX leftover. The black paint on his TL was as good as any I’ve ever seen (see pic below), but it was driving him bananas. The MDX was on the lot for a year, and it looked like the butchers washed it with a broom. We started polishing it out last Monday, and have about 16 hours (x 2 people) invested. We’ve been going after EVERYTHING, so it’s been a very slow process correcting the finish.

So far we’ve used:

Menzerna Power gloss/mixed with a little FPII (for more lube) on an orange pad via PC.(It had a few fairly deep scratches)

Menzerna FPII via rotary @1500 RPM & via PC & white polishing pad @ 5.5

Menzerna P085RD via rotary @ 1500 RPM

A few spots got Optimum Compound via the cyclo and orange pads. -This was effective at removing scratches on the bumpers.

Here’s a shot of the TL he traded:

Here are a few shots of the MDX about ½ way into our 16 hour marathon!

I'll post a few after shots after we wrap it up this weekend.

John: You are crazy!

Have you disowned yourself from your family? I'm sure they aren't all chipper about your absense :).

Truck looks amazing. Nice color choice!

Too funny Sean! My neighbors wife is on a cruise with her mother, so we're getting it done while to coast is clear!

Here are a few shots after Greg finished up with FPII last night. He's in the process of laying down UPP & some of the Poorboys Blue stuff.

Greg and I finished up his 04 MDX last night. It's a good thing his wife and mother-in-law are on a 2 week cruise because we spent an insane amount of time on this one. I'm confident in saying that there isn't a scratch, swirl, or any marring in the paint. There are a few VERY minor spots on the roof from acid rain (can only be seen under the lights), but other than that the finish is as flawless as I've ever seen.

We lost track of the hours invested into this project.....

Polishers: 2 PC's, Cyclo, Rotary -All of them got a good workout.
Polishes: Menzerna PG, IP, FPII, P085RD, Optimum Compound, UPC.
Prep/Seal: UPC/UPP
Topper: Natty's Blue on the paint, Poorboys sealer on the wheels.
Trim/Tires: TR, and BnB
