2 Detailed Porche Racers

Goof Off Rocks!
If you've read my post called 'what would you bid this job at?"
http://www.detailcity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4634
It was about detailing a trailer. I bid the job high because I couldn't get there to see it first. Anyways, the job turned out to be easy and I made out pretty good on the deal. The guy was so happy with the job and the service that he had me come out to do two of the racers. Just goes to show that its not how much you charge as long as you provide value to your customer.

Pretty friggin cool cars. Much more fun to work on than a suv or minivan. The red one had over 500hp. The black stuff all over the body's is melted rubber that fly's off high performance tires during racing. Not easy to get off. AIO worked ok but Goof Off was really the key, did a nice job. The red one was difficult because it has no windows and I couldn't wash it with the pressure washer. They came out real nice considering all the road rash on the hoods and bumpers. The owner has been paying his son to detail the cars since he started racing 3 years ago. He said that he thought the rubber wouldn't come off and was very impressed with the results. He promissed me all of his business. He wants all five cars detailed after every race, each car races 3-5 times a year.

Absolutely inspiring !!!

Those car must have had some heavy tar along with the rubber on the paint !!! You must have used 3 claybays on those Porsches !!! Great job denverdetail !!!

BTW... I love the van !!! Looks similar to mine :google

WOW

Dem some hottt cars!!!!!
Great job on the details.
If he actually does swing the other cars your way maybe he'll let you take one out for a ride.

I've worked on some cars like this at the local race track Sears Point. On the rubber fling use PB pro polish works like a charm i taking off the old rubber.

I second Beemerboy's recommendation. I visited a Porsche racing facility with Poorboy's Steve, and one of the mechanics easily removed melted rubber with Pro Polish on a Kleenex (yes, the facial tissue). There was a fun thread about this experience, but I think it was lost in the "pushed the wrong button" event.

The yellow one was easier because it had windows and I could use the Pressure washer.

Yellow car
Wash / Goof off around the whole vehicle / clay / wash again / Compound with heavy cut / polish / machine glaze / wax had to be very carefull because of all the vinyl decals

Red car again no windows
used about 15 wet towels to clean / Goof off / clay / rinse with water in spray bottle and more towels / Compount / polish / glaze / wax

I did make it a point to put a bug in the owners ear about how I'd love to drive one. He said he'd be happy to let me take one for a spin. Has to be on a track though, cars aren't street legal. Real nice guy, I think I made a very positive impression.

And thanks guys for the tip on the PoorBoys polish. I've been here long enough now that I've just got to try some of PB's stuff.

Last note: My wife says yesterday, What are you always doing on that website? I told her and she viewed some threads where I've posted. She said "damn, you are the longest winded person in all of those threads"

Sorry folks, I'll try to be more brief going forward!

With pics and stories like that, you can be as long winded as you want!!!

Oh Yeah, you do want to try Poorboy's stuff. It's great.

Denver!!!

Your wife says your long winded!! Ha! HA! My lady thinks the same thing about me!! Asking me y am I always on here!! Will they ever understand?!?

Question/point of caution: Will you be compounding after every race? Will removing paint be a concern? Are the cars clear coated?

How often can you compound before you get to primer?

TIA!

If it Floats, Rolls or Flyes, I can make it shine!!

I've never used it before so don't hold me to it 2drtahoe but I believe goof off is a type of adhesive removal type solvent. I think it works more or less like a tar remover where you apply, let it soak a few seconds then scrub whatever you are trying to remove off. A retail store like Wal-Mart or an auto parts store would probably carry it but not very sure. Can anyone put the ok on this since I havent used it before....want to make sure and not give incorrect info

nice job denver .. you lucky dog .. id do the cars for free just to drive one.. looks good...i get all the pigpens & you get racecars.. what gives??

I thought "Goof-Off" was a paint remover! Be careful. Perhaps it hasn't reacted with the Glasurit Paint on the Porsches. A similar named Goo- Gone is one of those citrus based removers that is less toxic and less likely to remove paint. Good ol Terpentine is mild and takes a lot of road tar stuff off. Cheap too. Some people have success with WD-40. Lighter fluid (Naptha) is a little stronger.
