1st time w/ONR,NOT impressed

well i finally got my bottle of ONR a couple days ago but i didnt have a chance to use it till yoday.its been raining the past 2 days so there was a very dirty film on the car,especially the bottom half(of course).so i broke out the ONR,2 buckets,2 sheepskin mitts,MF towells,and a 32oz spray bottle with i capfull of ONR/water.maybe its because the sun was out (it was 80F +/- today if you can belive it)but i would go to wipe the panel down,then dry but for one it would streak really bad and then dry so you could see almost like long rows of waterspots.for 2 the surface still looked "filmy" if that makes any sense.I seen one post on here were someone sprayed the bottom of a door with ONR/water and you could see the dirt melting away.that was def not the case for me.i sprayed the bottom of the door and it did nothing.just dried to more waterspots.am i doing something wrong?



Lesson for the day:NOTHING substitutes a real wash.
 
Sorry to hear that. I too used it for the first time this week and I loved it. I had 42 degree weather and used it in my garage with 2 buckets. No streaks, no film. Maybe its the mixing ratio you used?
 
thats what i thought too.the bottle says 2 caps for 2 gallons of water.i had about 2.5 gallons so i used 3 caps and a full cap in my spray bottle that has like an 8th of a gallon.
 
I'll have to go with Jsatek on this one, i'm addicted to this stuff. I haven't used "regular" carwash since i recieved my ONR.
 
you may want to consider giving ti another shot . . . perhaps do a pre rinse with a sprayer on dirty sections . . . let sit for a while . . .



i have used ONR on several vehciels since I got my first bottle . . . . I is very conveient when you cant do a regular wash . . .

Well, I always Quick Detail after using ONR so can't say I've had the problem. Even if it doesn't look 100% though, ONR sure will give you the option to clean up your vehicle when it's snowing and icy outside. If for nothing else, the product is useful for that. I only use it when I can't do a conventional wash. I just enjoy washing my car more the conventional way.
 
Hmmm . . . I was just reading the directions on Optimum's website. Apparently 2 cap fulls is 1 oz. It does also say add 2 cap fulls (1 oz.) to your bucket with 1-2 gallons of water.



Personally, I always use 1 oz. of rinseless soap per gallon of water. Also, when I mix up a 32 oz. spray bottle of solution I put 1 oz. of soap in and 31 oz. of water. I think if you use these ratios as well you'll be much happier.
 
Just wondering how long you left your pre-soak solution on. Sounds like you didn't have very much humidity and it partially dried before you could agitate it on your car?



Unless I my cars are very, very dirty, I find the ONR is really hard to beat and a great time saver.
 
weird. I use ONR for about 8-months now. From 90 degree weather to about 27 F (last week).

I use (2) caps in (1) gallon and a rinse bucket with about 3 gallons. Comes out mint to date. Also used the grey stuff (over time changes color) and brand new blue; just bought another gallon from Danase. Both work mint and that is over salt and sand (from CT winters).



I say it dried quick and you need to go over the section again (as directed) and then wipe with MF or WW.
 
I doubled the recipe my first time. I figured it can't hurt. Whatever the bottle says to use, I used double. I think I got the idea from one of the posts here. Do a search and find the ONR "How to".



The stuff is pretty watery for soap. I can't imagine that it left a film on your car especially when its diluted in water. There must have been something else on your car to begin with. Try going through the touchless at the gas station to give yourself a head start. Then come home and do the ONR wash in a garage, or late in the day when it's not so hot.



Also, fdizzle is right about the sprayer. Try getting one of those pesticide sprayers at home depot
 
I got a filmy left over the first time I used it. I switched to WW's to dry and haven't seen it since. I don't think ill ever go not use ONR again>
 
Without actually watching you use ONR, it is really hard to say what the problem is. I've been using QEW and now ONR for more than 13 years and other than the first couple of times with QEW getting the hang of it, rinseless washing is my favorite way by far to wash. There is a learning curve but once you master the process, it is a very easy and fast way to wash.



Personally, I don't mess with pre-spraying, two buckets, etc. One bucket, a chenille or microfiber covered foam pad and a couple of plush towels (currently Meguiar's Super Terrys and Excel Detail's 16 x 16 yellow towels with the black hem). I wash one section at a time, begin drying with the Super Terry and follow with the Excel MF.

damn scottwax i wish i had those results.my car was at least that dirty.i dont know it just didnt look like it was cleaning anything.the only thing i really noticed is that the water sheets off really well so you dont have much to wipe off.im def gonna have a go at it again but ill try double the rec. amount.also it was the first time i used a sheepskin mitt.usually i use a chenille mit so maybe i wasnt using enough pressure thinking i was gonna scratch it.

You shouldn't need to use any pressure. The only thing pressure is going to do is scratch the paint. As Scott already mentioned, it's hard to know what you're doing wrong with watching you wash a car. I think adding more soap to your solution is a good start though.

Why wouldn't a second bucket be used for rinsing the mitt like when doing a regular wash? After you wash one section do you put the mitt back into the ONR solution bucket and agitate a bit to knock out the dirt?



Of course I am not questioning your method at all, I am very curious. After being made so aware of using a 2 (or 6 as I had seen mentioned) bucket method seeing that dirty water/ONR bucket makes me wonder what the difference is.

I'd say to make sure when you're drying that you aren't leaving a film. I use 2 towels at a time to dry. The first one is to get most of the water off, and then the second to totally dry the panel.



BTW, I got the drying method from ScottWax, et al.
