1988 M3 wearing BC08

This is a new client who recently had this car restored to a high performance standard. When I first looked at it it didn’t look that bad outside! Once we got it in the shop as you will see, I was not happy! And apparently the painter wanted the paint to dry before lunch so he added a lot of hardner!
2 cutting sessions with the Griot’s 21 using 5 inch microfiber pads and fast cut cream. Refined with the perfecting cream on the yellow perfecting pad. Finished with Modesta Primer on a black pad using the Griot’s GG6. Still remaining are a few very deep sand scratches that you gotta catch at the right angle but I’m happy with the results. Coated paint with BC08, wheels with polish angel, glass with Dr. Beasley. Trim with Modesta trim coating. Thank you for looking!

The owner should be very happy that he found you to correct the painters/restoration shops errors/workmanship! Looks great and well done!

[INSERT usual praise for Mike lambert`s work here...]

Wow, I simply love that car! Thought this thread might make me miss my E30 M3, but no....it makes me want that one!

Thanks for sharing that one with us.

Other than the black extension on the tail and the black wheels that was my first car when I was totally convinced I was going to be a race car driver. The funding just was not there to make the dream a reality. Went to limerock for several classes and then races. Knew I was in trouble when my brakes and tires were gone and I had to drive 2.5 hours home. Not to mention I was the only one who showed up solo and drove my car up to the track , on the track and expected to drive it home. Lack of funding and inexperience makes you do dumb stuff.

Fantastic work as always Mike!!!

E30 M3’s in white are always my favorite, though I may be a bit biased...

(That was mine back on the stock wheels before I sold it). It may be sacrilegious to say, but it counts as a car I’m really glad I owned, but glad I don’t anymore. A unique driving experience, but no getting past that it’s a 28 year old ````logation race car.

Edit: Censorship clarification- that made me laugh out loud. I understand why it was dashed out, I was just trying to describe the Motorsport process of certifying a car for racing use by having a sufficient number of street versions sold.

Awesome work and write up and pictures! That sounds like you had some battleing with the hard clearcoat lol But you concured it and delivered an awesome finish.

Thanks for shareing your work!

Looks great!

How does a new paint job get that many swirls? Were they actually rotary holograms you couldn`t see due to the color? I`m just trying to understand how a fresh repaint ends up in that condition.

Rotary damage , sanding pigtails , body shops don’t polish paint , they just try to make it shiny. Cover it with glaze and put the door!

Easily seen in the sun, but once the scangrip is on it they really show up. And having dark walls really helps in bringing out the defects on a light color.

Mike lambert- Which Scangrip? I`ve heard, uhm...mixed reviews...of their current one.

Spotting light holograms on white is pretty much my Gold Standard for Inspection Lighting..

I have both the hand held color match and the larger first version on a stand, however, the Griot’s I believe are very similar and a little less expensive.
