1960 Coupe Deville

Clean Dean

Keep it clean !!!
I detailed this 1960 Cadillac Coupe Deville this morning, and I wanted to share this piece of American history with the DC community. This car was are real piece of over the top american heavyweight steel !!! The chrome alone must have weighed over 500 pounds !!!

The grill...

I used about one full container of Eagle One wadding polish on this badboy, and the chrome was in exceptional condition for being an original 44 year old car. Only some minor hairline pitting...

The Paint...

The original paint was a single stage metalic that had quite a bit of oxidation built up over the years. After a serious claying with an AM Red claybar most of the surface contaminants wire removed and she was ready for some cutting. A pass with Meg's Power Cleaner and a yellow wool pad quickly cut through a layer of oxidation and removed most of the minor surface scratches. A pass with DACP and an edge yellow pad, prior to a pass with Meg's Swirl Free Polish cleaned the paint up nicely as she called out for a coat of Natty's.

The 44 year old paint felt slick and silky smooth, and the paint although starting to fade slightly looked great !!!

Interior...

The interior was also all original, and a testimate to the one owners absolute love for the car !!!

The engine...

Was repainted within the last 10 years and really held up nicely !!! My only wish would have been for some chrome could have really dressed up this bay !!! But it is all factorty OEM original.

Whitewalls...

The original whitewall tires were yellow and discolored, but a all purpose cleaner called "Red Heat" by Magichem worked wonders on them. I used Red Heat full strength with a firm bristoled nylon brush and some 00 steel wool to bring back the white. Dressed with Dealers Choice #505 water based dressing.

Last pic...

I really enjoyed and appreciated detailing an all original automobile that was 10 years older than I am...

HOLY CRAP!!!!! WHAT A CAR!!!! You made a beautiful car look even better. I'm a BIG 1958-1960 Caddy fan. Very, very nice work.

Great job on an increadable car :bow

I am sure that the car was turning heads on the road EVEN BEFORE you worked your magic on it.
A car like that is the reason America loves the automobile.

Damnnn!

That thing is a boat, but what a classic.

Amazing work. That grille looked like a paint to do, but what results overall!

How long did it take?

My dad had a four-door version of this puppy, same color, and let me drive it senior prom night 1961! I did NOT drink that night!!

Great job! Thanks for sharing it and bringing back a whole bunch of fun memories. A fella tends to forget stuff from 44 years back but given the right "cue" the memories come flooding back. Kinda like accessing "D" drive that has files that haven't been looked at for a while, or finding a tray of old slides that haven't been projected for many years..... :D Great fun. Thanks again.

Looks great!

Good thing you did a good job cause you would not want the Don after you!

LMFAO....Wonder if the DNA would match his?
