1000p

Rob - how does it compare in look to Opti Seal? IIRC you were impressed by this recently?

Not tried 1000P, or any FK1 products, yet, but always tossing around new options?

thanks

Funny you ask, because I was trying to figure that out myself today (a day and a half after applying the 1000p).

The difficulty I have is that the Opti-Seal is on my Yellow Mazda Protege5 (and does not have a clear coat). My wifes SUV is a Pewter Metallic with a clear coat, so it is very difficult to compare them.

Thus far, I would say that the Opti-Seal seems to be a little wetter looking than the 1000p, but it is close, and I don't know if there would be much of a difference if they were on the same paint.

The 1000p looks wetter this evening (day and half later) than it did yesterday.

Rob, keep checking the definition and clarity in the next 2-3 days.

Ha! Right you are, because I already noticed a difference, per above, a day and half later. Clearer and wetter. I dusted it off today with FK 425, which I am sure isn't hurting. :up

I just added another coat of 1000 to my GF's car, the last coats were back in september and they held up all winter, (MI winter). Wiped down with 425 and tires and wells with 108, FK simply works.

By far, one of my favorite pastes, a few notches above 476s IMO.

14.5 oz for $16 is an outstanding deal as well.

This is what I am starting to realize as well. I just wish they didn't forget to put the 108 in my order. :(

The tin of 1000p will last a LONG time. If any of the local Inland Empire Autopians are interested in trying a sample, let me know! :)

How long do you need to wait between coats?

IDK for sure, but I would wait at least 24 hours. I usually wait until after a wash.

I have not figured out a way to apply 1000p with a PC , tip would be appreciated .

A 4" pad fits perfectly in the tin, I just set it in there and twist it. One issue with machine application is overapplication, don't apply it too thick or you will have a great time, "breaking the film". FK uses that quote in the directions, and its an accurate description IMO.

I much prefer hand application with the smooth side of the red CCS round apps.

i use 4" cyclo pads with the PC and it fits right in the tin. pat and twist in in the tin lightly, and you're good to go...

I use a white pad on the udm.

I keep a yellow applicator in the tin

I saturate the applicator

dab it on the panel (4 or 5 per panel)

Spread it around on speed 6 ( it is a thick wax after all)

BTW, you can layer after 20 minutes.

I thought I remembered someone saying that you didn't need to wait with 1000p, but I am not sure. In either case, I will either put another coat on tomorrow (which would be more than 48 hours) or wait until after next weekends wash.

I'm old school: I still do my LSP's by hand.

FK LSPs (even different ones) can pack-cure. You can apply the next coat after 20 minutes.

As I don't have 4" pads, I simply stuff my bigger pads into the tin. Squeeze in, twist, slap on the machine, apply.

thanks - I wish I had more cars so i could try all this out on....the FK stuff seems like another range of good value, does what it promises products.

My MG in the avatar is a pale primrose yellow, and I topped some well cured wax last week with a layer of Opti Seal and was impressed with the extra gloss it added, for just a few minutes work. Beading was also impressive when we were caught in a storm later in the day.... car was self drying as soon as the rain eased and we hit 40 mph ;)

Yes, I like having 3 vehicles, because it does allow me to try more products. It doesn't stop there though, because there are still more products to try. The answer? I "volunteer" to detail friends and families cars. I usually ask for a small sum of $ to help pay for the products that I will use, wear on the pads, etc, but I never charge for my actual labor. They get a great deal, there vehicle looks great, and I get to try more products (and techniques).

I guess I would have to get different pads and backing plate if I wanted to go this route. I use the 5" one that came with my PC and use 6" megs pads. I'll have to figure out how to do it since I'm not going to but a new back plate and pads to apply it.

I added a second coat of 1000p to my wifes SUV this last weekend (one week after the first coat) and I would have to say that this second coat made a big difference in appearance. As big a difference as I have ever seen a second coat of any product make.

Hey Rob,

(And anyone else who may have already tried this) I recently ordered 1000P and Pink Wax and haven't had a chance to use either yet. On a velocity yellow vette and my wife's flint mica lexus would y'all use 1 layer of 1000P and one layer of PW or some other combination? Thanks!

In the summer one of my favorite combos is 1000P topped with PW.

I feel the 1000P gives the noted extra clear coat and PW makes it look dripping wet.

As a side note I only use PW when I can have my garage door open, this has to be the nastiest smelling stuff .

I never tried this on yellow but on grays and gold it gives that extra kick that gets them noticed.

I haven't tried the PW, but I hear good things (and I have yet to be disappointed with a FK1 product), but if I had it, I would go with 2 coats of the 1000p and then top it with the PW. I would also definitely use FK 425 to help keep the dust attraction of the PW down.

Speaking of which, I have noticed that 1000p does attract a little more dust than a pure sealant would, but not by a big margin. Certainly not like most carnauba's.

Gears & Rob,

Thanks a bunch for the advice. I really appreciate your help. Do you guys apply both by hand or ROB? I have some 4" (IIRC) LC Gray CCS pads. I'll definitely top the 100P/PW with 425. It may take me several weeks before I actually have time to do either car, but I'll post back when I do.

I always apply my LSP's by hand, but I'm sure you could use a buffer if you prefer.

Just follow the directions carefully on the 1000p. Don't let it dry much longer than 15 minutes unless you have high humidity or it will get more difficult to remove.

Definitely post your results when you have finished.

Thanks for the tip on the drying part. It's normally low humidity here in Dallas.
