The Story:

THis car was beat up pretty bad last fall from a tornado that came through town. It ended up needing a lot of body work and a complete repaint. Well, where to begin. After 3 months, the owner wanted his car back from the body shop. They rushed the final buffing and there were rotary holograms/buffer trails over the entire car. THis was my first experience removing them. Next......this was the softest clear I've ever seen. I couldn't hardly wipe the polish without scratching the paint. Oh, and it had a few swirls in it too from the soft clear coat.

In the end, I wasn't able to remove everything, but got pretty close. The hardest part was getting it to finish down completely without marring from my PC....yeah it was so bad that Meg's #9 and a final finishing pad marred if I wasn't careful. Tried an Orange pad, but it left as much marring as it removed, so on to the green.

Process:

Wash w/ 2 bucket

(didn't need clay, but I tested various spots incase)

SSR 2.5 w/ Propel Green Pad - PC Speed 6 (twice in some areas)

Meguiars #80 w/ Propel Green Pad - PC Speed 6 (twice or three times in some areas)

Meguiars #80 w/ Propel Blue Pad - PC Speed 6 (only in some areas)

Meguiars #9 w/ Propel Blue Pad - PC Speed 6 (medium pressure, then letting up to light pressure)

Meguiars #26 w/ Propel Blue Pad

Final Wipe Down with Meguiars Last Touch

Windows got Invisible Glass

Interior got a wipe down with Meguiars NXT Interior Protectant

Vaccumed

Wheels Polished with Mother's Liquid Aluminum Polish

Exhaust Tips Polished with Mother's Liquid Aluminum Polish

Tires got Meguiars Hot Shine

I think that's everything. Now on to the horror shots

Like I said it's not 100% in full sun, but the customer was extremely pleased with the results. Was also open to tips about using the two bucket method.

Thanks for looking.

Great work. I loved this picture so I ran it through an editoer and sharpened it. I think maybe a little to much, but I cleaned up the colors, let me know what you think.

doesn't look bad. Made it look a little grainy though. I usually edit mine a little in photoshop to get the color's looking good. Didn't spend the time on it this time.

Very reflective and wet. I feel your pain on the soft black paints-I did a black BMW today that is the same way-an MF will mar it and it looks like there are little swirls/streaks/smears left over at the end. Very frustrating.

Paint looks awesome though...cool car too.

The shop did a lousy job on the detail, but they sure did a nice job on painting and wetsanding...very little OP. Nice looking car, and you did a great job on getting it in good shape!

Thanks guys. Yeah, the shop did a good job with the wetsanding. I noticed the driver's side door had a decent amount of orange peel. When I asked the owner he said that was the only panel that didn't get a repaint. Also the rear bumper had a good bit of OP that was still in there. The spoiler was really bad. I guess it's suppossed to have a little, but it was really bad with OP.

Ford's paint quality is a joke, my 06 mustang is covered in orange peel!!

That looks great!!! Nice turnaround. The door shot is cool. Nice land scape.LOL.THat is my favorite car. Is that a shaker hood scoop?

wow, that thing was in really bad shape... you did an excellent job.. hopefully they hire you again to maintain that shine!

Yeah, when the damage was done from the tornado he too the oportunity to cut a hole in the hood and make it a shaker hood. Pretty cool. I hope he hires me to keep it clean for him. This was definately a fun car to detail.
