'06 BMW M3 Competition Package detail

This shot is for tdekany and for everyone that questioned his undersized tire mounted on a wide rim. That is the rear wheel of this M3 with a tire that is 100% undersized (from the factory) for that rim. I'm not sure what the purpose is but some engineer at BMW got paid a lot of $$$ to figure out this set-up.

First of all, the rim is not PROTRUDING from the tire sidewall.

Second of all, do you really want to bring that debate back up?

Nice detail.

Oh...and it's a tire design engineer, not the bmw engineer. It's for numerous reasons, tire roll, curb rash, lots of things why it's like that.

I second Wally's explanation. Here in the US everyone seems to want the low profile, wide stance tire...........in Europe it's very common to see this look on cars. I thought it strange also my first few trips there but I see where they are coming from. European car enthusiasts , in my never to be humble opinion, are more into performance when it come to the handling of the car where in the US it's more about horsepower performance and how quick you can do the 1/4 mile, torque ect.

It's evident by simply seeing what the 2 regions are into: Europe: formula 1, road rallys (both require excellent handling/manuevering cars, hairpin turns) US: dragsters, NASCAR (relatively straight tracks, lots of HP, smooth turns on the tracks).

Beside the fact that it's a lovely car I just want to add that in general the chassis development is one of the hardest things to perform on a car. It's more then slamming on big tyres and low&hard springs...Setting up the chassis if a car is a skill that only the very best can do...

Car looks great. I'm of the opinion that the tire is at least a series too narrow. Tread line shouldn't be that far inboard of the outer rim area for my taste.

Trying to convince the lady to step up to an M3 since she's in the running for a new car, but she doesn't want a stick and we test drove the new IS350 and she really likes it for "creature comforts" - if only she could appreciate the beauty that is the M3 in all it's glory... I will say it is one of the most iconic sports cars of the last decade. GREAT JOB Mike, looks as gorgeous as it should every day.

First off. . .great detail! i LOVE interlagos, probably my favorite non silver color! :)

about the tire width, that's how they come OEM. . .255 rear width tires, IS a strech on a 9.5" width wheel. . .I run 275 in the rear, and it fits perfectly :2thumbs:

back to the detail - only problem is the rotors! his wheels are soCLEAN, and theyre going to be orange after driving it for 1 mile(i know from experience unfortunately), hahah, what a pain. . .otherwise, flawless job

This 06 M3 can be driven in "automatic " mode. Has no clutch, you change gears F1 style.

I sure don't remember the topic

We had I think the same color as yours at this show a couple of weeks ago parked next to us. Unfortunately it was full of swirls. Didn't llok anything like yours. The rest of it was clean - it was fairly new.

First-class detailing on a first-class car. I wish I could justify one, but not for a few years, hopefully by then, I can find a good one.

Steve

The detailing looks top notch... the car color is BEAUTIFUL too. Anyone know the color name? And euros and their "stretched" tires... so lame.
