'04 TL Ultima'd and just plain WET! 56k you'd better think about it!

I was contacted last week by a fellow member that just doesn't have the time to spend with his car as he did before. He has a plethora of products on hand (true sign that he's been hanging around here a while) to take care of the car in the in between time though. He may or may not chime in here and I will respect his privacy if he doesn't.:)

The subject was an '04 Acura TL in a medium gray color (Polished Metal Metallic?) that was showing some toweling marks and a few random deep scratches as well. It also had a few random "rub" marks that took away from the overall finish of the car.

The bad: I had to take it easy on the hood and fenders as the car is showing signs of paint failure(checking) in those areas so it's not perfect.:(

The paint contaminates were removed using an elastrofoam block during the ONR wash. While this did cause minor marring the car was going to be polished and the wash and "claying" take just a few minutes. It's a no brainer.

All painted surfaces were polished using Menzerna 106ff and a green Lake Country CCS pad on my new Metabo:D while all painted surfaces and lighting were cleaned/prepped with Ultima PPP and sealed with Ultima PGP.

The seats, dash and door panels were cleaned using Ultima Interior Shampoo Gel to remove the 30 weight that had been applied during a recent interior detail. The Shampoo Gel gently but effectively cleaned away all of the gunk and paved the way for all of the surfaces to be protected using Ultima Interior Guard Plus. IGP left the interior surfaces feeling silky and applied evenly without any fuss.

The owner was very hospitable to me and even insisted on buying me lunch on his dime. A true pleasure to work for!

Thanks for looking!

Thoughts/questions.....

Thanks guys.

Morarch, I'm wondering if the areas had been improperly repaired at some point without the owners knowledge. He says that the car had the white shipping paper on it when he bought it. The paint is cracking on the leading edge of the hood and fenders and goes further up the hood than fenders which is an odd place for it to start.

What's up SpoiledMan. That was my car that was beautifully restored. You did a great job . I enjoyed picking your brain about many different subject matters regarding car care. You are true professional. Thanks for your hard work.

I too was mystified when you showed me the early signs of paint failure on a 2004 vehicle bought brand spanking new. The thought of a dealer possibly damaging my car and respraying it just sickens me. I would hope to believe that it's due to a bad factory paint job but that seems really odd on such a new car.

I am contemplating either getting it repainted or just selling it in the next year and getting the latest model. We haven't decided yet.

Again, thanks for your great work. Enjoy your "new" printer.

Oh wow, that looks stellar! I think I might have to look into the Ultima line now.

Yes do yourself a favor .That stuff is simply amazing.I tried the UPGP and the UPPP and was blown away by it on my Black CLK so I ordered the rest of the line up I just got the rest in yesterday Minus the UIGP(Ultima interior Guard Plus) that I emailed about missing from the order and can't wait to use it.I'm sure Lynn will be replying to the email and getting it out to me quickly. But again simply put the stuff is AMAZING !!!!!!

wow great job on the tl!! I see you're still rocking the gsr.. nice! How do you like the metabo? DId you use a rotary before? I was thinking about upgrading from my makita to a metabo. Also, that's weird that the paint is failing, but shouldnt that be covered by acura? Paint warranties are usually pretty extensive

Thanks! Yep easy to use with great results.

Spoiledman that car came out dripping wet...very nice work

Thanks again.

Looks are subjective but I'm sold on the look of PGP. I've tried all 3 of the WOWA products currently on the market and PGP is the only one that I've actually been able to walk away from without coming back to wipe more.

Thanks! Yeah, now I'm working on getting to 28k miles.:D:D I like the Metabo for the weight but I'm still working on the comfort level as I'm not used to holding the head of a machine. I've been using rotaries for 11+ years and either had a side or bail style handle with flexibility in how I hold the machine. At this point I still prefer the bail handle and find myself reaching for my Hitachi many times. It is a thought to get it over to an Acura dealer or two and see what they have to say as they're trying to be more service related these days and just may take care of him or at least meet him half way. I'll suggest that.:)

love ur write-up, *respect*.

Spoiledman, how did you use the interior gel cleaner?...does it need rinsing?

Thanks.:) The Interior Shampoo Gel can either be sprayed directly on the surface you intend to clean or onto the applicator. It doesn't need to be washed away as drying with a MF towel is all that's needed.

Thanks for all the comments!

Regarding the possibility of the car being repainted by the dealer, I know my dad's '06 Suburban had a panel repainted (he works at a collision repair shop, and has access to a paint depth gauge, and sure enough, one panel registered about twice as much paint as the others). Granted, I'm comparing a Chevy dealer to an Acura dealer, but my point is, it does happen without the buyer being informed of it unfortunately. By the way, nice car, and congrats to SpoiledMan for the amazing wetness on the paint...I may have to pick up some Ultima products in the near future.

Nice job there. I agree with the Ultima line praise. I also hv the 3 WOWO products and I like this one the best.

Nice rescue SpoiledMan! great to hear about ultima products that you use, still can't believe that the hood area is checking, hope he can get the dealer to repair it. Awesome Job!

Thanks. I'm going to call the owner today (unless he reads it here first:D) and advise that he try the dealer complaint first and then American Honda. This just shouldn't be happening on a car this new for sure.

That looks awesome! One question though. Do you apply PGP to everything windows, paint, etc.

Yes and unless you apply way too much it will dry streak free on glass as well.

Do you guys recommend me contacting American Honda via telephone or going down to the dealer where I have my car serviced and show them the paint?

What is the best way to handle this?
