I have done some spot repairing of this "checking". It does look beter than it did but I can't say it was worth the effort. I wet sanded the spots into the primer as they do go that deep, then got paint code match in a can through express paint in addition to a can of clear. after I sanded I built up spot with color match by spraying multiple shots of the paint onlt in the sanded spot , allowing drying time between each shot. Once I achieved a build up of paint in the spot I then feathered th paint outwadr a little. Then once dried I shot clear over the area. This was on an old car that had run it's course as far as never seeing any resale value. I would not attempt this on a newer car and don't really know If I would do it again. As soon as I clean her car again I will post some before and after photos. I probably won't see this car again hor at least 2 months. I would say for the time involved that a repaint of the hood would be more cost effective. If you friend should attempt ant paint repair though,Emphasizs preparation as being indespensable, Lots of Prep-All before and after sanding and a tack cloth before spraying any kind of paint.
