The Unofficial *Official* Politics Thread

Well I`m lost. Analogies are off limits? I personally have no clue about Ron`s situation and I can`t speak for Setec, but I think his analogy was meant to draw a comparison that was easily relatable (to all of us) to illustrate that we shouldn`t just accept the way things are. We all know someone with cancer... my dad died of cancer and I don`t find his analogy offensive at all....
There`s lots of other appropriate analogies that could have been used. I`ve only been on this forum for a few weeks, and I understand the situation. The reason I get on this forum pretty much everyday, is because of how classy everyone seems too be on here.

At what point does discussing gun control become a liberal agenda....waiting periods, background checks, banning a particular weapon? It is not binary. There is a broad range of opinions witjhthe extremes driving the discussion.

My definition of hypocrisy is promoting claims like "Hilliary is lying" as if they are exposing the truth and then turns around and never mentions all Trump`s lies. Chronic hypocrites just cannot viewed as credible since most everything said has an agenda. You cannot have an honest discussion with them. But sympathetic people like to hear what they want to hear.

Bunky,

Typically my use of "liberal agenda" means the liberal left, mainly far left (sadly the democratic party has been taken over by more of the far left anti-American, socialist crowd) and how that group seems to be very offended at just about anything and everything America was founded on and what America is.

The young kids in high school, marching and holding town halls, want to eradicate the 2nd Amendment. To them and many others it is old, archaic and not meant for modern times. What they are too ignorant to grasp is that the First and Second Amendments go hand in hand. If we remove the 2A how then can we protect the First?

Hillary is a liar. Full blown in your face lying snake. Trump is, I am sure, just as full of it but in Hillary`s case, that women boils my blood. Her troop of faithful butt kissers are liars also. Huma Abedin and Susan Rice are just as corrupt and it would make me jump for joy seeing them all doing a perp walk in cuffs! BUT sadly that will NEVER happen because they are too big to go down. If Trump is guilty of anything criminal then get his butt tossed out also.

THe fact is I am dying of cancer, and I am offended at his comment.

Hey Ron, you`re not dying of cancer, you`re living with cancer. There`s a difference. You could get hit by a truck, die from falling space debris or a host of other things that can kill you long before cancer.

I`m praying for you.

People wanting to get rid of guns are not hypocrites. They are just not realistic and trying to get attention to the issue but this is how the political process always works. This is the strategy of by all parties for some extreme agenda to stir up a group. The fact that Rubio and Scott have relented on a couple points means they have accomplished some aspect of their agenda.

I am not for banning guns but believe reasonable restrictions should be adopted.

If you dislike Hilliary for lying, you should equally dislike Trump. If not, then it was not lying that was the basis of the opinion. It is a false rationalization.

Lame attack on the media. If 10 to 17 people in Chicago were shot in the same incident, I`m pretty sure that every new organization would cover it. You can`t cover every single death that happens in the country.

So are you saying that there should be no line drawn anywhere on what type of guns the general public should have access too?
Rofl, the MSM doesn`t seem to care much when that many people get killed in Chicago every weekend

Bunky, how ya doin?

I would argue that everyone in some form or fashion is a hypocrite. We may be so intentionally or we may be so in ignorance. These kids, many of them, have no clue what the Constitution is about, its importance nor the Bill Of Rights. I don`t believe I ever stated that the kids are hypocrites but rather the "media" are the hypocrites.

We have right now sensible gun laws and restrictions yet many times they are not followed, sadly it can lead to tragedy. We also have laws governing our borders but again sadly they are not adhered to most of the time. We have laws against murder, lying, stealing, speeding and so on but we still go against those when we feel it benefits us while we chastise others who do it against us.

As for Trump, if you read my post I did in fact say he was a liar and if he is guilty of any wrong doing then throw his arse out. I am not a fan of Trump but he is doing a better job than I had thought he would do. For me personally, I have lost faith in just about all politicians. They sure sound good starting out but Washington is such a corrupt place and such a game that it seems everyone gets lost in that mire of crap and come out as millionaires.

The National Crime Victimization Study (NCVS) found that, on average, a "good guy with a gun" stops a violent crime 108,000 per year (conservative estimate). Let`s call that 108,000 lives saved. Now, with education and awareness, we can multiply that by a factor of 10.

My "unnecessary"(paraphrased ) new batch of chemo got here.

A friend of mine just sent me this. Sad,maybe funny to some, offensive to others, but true!!

Today, I placed my Glock 19 pistol on the table right next to my front door. I left its magazine beside it, then left it alone and went about my business.
While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor`s son across the street mowed the yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the "stop" sign near the front of my house.
After about an hour, I checked on the gun. It was quietly sitting there, right where I had left it. It had not moved itself outside. It had not killed anyone. Certainly, even with the numerous opportunities it had presented to do that. In fact, it had not even loaded itself. Well you can imagine my surprise, with all the hype by the Left and the media, about how dangerous guns are and how They kill people. Either the media is wrong, or I`m in possession of the laziest gun in the world.

The United States is 3rd in murders throughout the world. But if you take out just 5 `left-wing` cities: Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, St Louis and New Orleans -- the United States is 4th from the bottom, in the ENTIRE world, for murders.

These 5 cities are controlled by Democrats. They also have the toughest gun control laws in the USA. It would be absurd to draw any conclusions from this data, right?

Well, I`m off to check on my forks. I hear they`re making people fat!

Ron, I’ve been reading through the latest NCVS and for the life of me I can’t find that stat:

https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/cv16.pdf

Maybe you can let me know what page/table it’s from?
