Anyone here low carb?

Glad to see my comment on what to (not) feed dogs got some traction. It bugs the [heck] out of me when dogs get fat and unhealthy and their owners act like it's OK/inevitable just because they're getting older or were spayed/neutered.

Also bugs me when people act like fat gain/lower metabolism is inevitable for *people* as they get older..

Great, Chad !!!
Glad to hear this - it DOES make a difference !

I was getting this great product from a company in Green Bay, WI; it was frozen rolls of raw meat from a USDA inspected facility..
This company sells this raw meat to Zoo's, etc., everyone who has animals that need it and want to use it..

Never had 1 issue with this either..
The German-Girls were never hungry, looking for snacks (which we never did give them), and they were absolutely so much more "Alive" ...

What I did was put all the frozen rolls in a freezer and have one in a covered snap on lid rectangular plastic box that defrosted in the fridge..
Then I just took it out, got my good Salter scale, put their metal bowls on it, zero'd out the bowls, put the required ounces in the bowel, and they were good to go..
And as the frozen rolls melted and all the blood came out, I made sure to pour that into the bowels with the food...

And the Vet - he couldnt believe the difference in their health compared to other dogs like them that were not on the all meat regimen..
These dogs never had 1 health issue, in the 7 years I had them.. The most boring check ups in the world.. Nothing wrong, nothing happening, just very healthy dogs with never a health issue..

Nice!

We've talked about getting all the raw ingredient and making our own, but for now it's just store bought stuff. ;)

Pet owners ALERT! Dont ever feed them anything from China! Food from China has sickened and killed pets and cant be trusted.

For that matter Human ALERT!!! Dont eat anything from China! Read labels . You would be surprised how much stuff is imported from China.

I personally don't follow low/high carb dieting , I switched my entire food intake to 90%+ Organic (what we used to know as normal food before chemicals and genetically modified junk made their way into it) and that has been the best decision I've made health wise. Lost 40 lbs with barely any working out , more natural energy, no crashes after any meals, shut my doctor up when he tried to put me on cholesterol "medication" and I just feel great. My personal motto is "count chemicals, not calories".

It is what worked for me personally and I've stuck with it for over a year now which is the longest I ever have with any eating habit.

Also, Dogs rule!

Treats for my dogs are organic carrots, skinless green apple slices, pureed organic pumpkin(non sweetened of course) and the occasional store bought treats made in USA with ingredients I can read and understand what they are.

Migue- I wish the organic stuff weren't so expensive..but yeah it's pretty hard to (otherwise) argue against it. Not surprised that it's working so well for you. Intersting that you lost weight by just changing that...wonder how that works?!?

Related- there was a study that showed how people who drink organic whole milk tested better in every regard compared to people who drank regular skim milk. That one sorta surprised me, at least the bodyfat level and blood lipid profile aspects of it.

Funny when I was low carb for so many years and hardly eating anything I was 40 pounds overweight.

Now I eat high calorie/fat foods like eggs avocado, nuts, coconut and coconut oil and eat 3 times more then I used to I am 40 pound lighter.

I found out last year I had a hyperthyroid disorder that was consuming all my calories but now my thyroid has been stable/normal for a year and still can eat what ever I want. But I do restrict meat gluten ,dairy and sugar from my diet but eat plenty of carbs like rice ,banana and GF bread.

The reason I say its a good idea to get your thyroid checked is men have problems with this too,not just women. If your hypothyroid you will gain weight and have no energy and want to sleep all the time and may feel cold and depressed. Hyperthyroid is the opposite and much less common.

Somewhere I read your brain needs carbs to function properly ?Thats all it took for me to start eating more carbs!:D

Yes, at first you definitely feel how expensive it can be, it was quite the process for me since i did everything very gradually instead of going 100% "cold-turkey" . Started out by not eating bread/pasta/potatoes while finding organic alternatives to my favorite snacks and foods. Then i re-introduced pasta and dough in the form of organic wheat pasta and things like that, limited my poultry consumption to weekends only(weekdays was wild caught seafood and organic tofu/pollenta/tempeh) and drastically reduced dairy consumption (only rice milk and regular cheese here and there) . I went from spending 2 hrs at the store grocery shopping and my Girlfriend dropping out of the trip to now being in and out in less than an hr. with my GF back in company.

Most important thing that helped me stick with this and become so strict in the beginning was....educating myself about how my food was being made.

Regarding on how i lost weight while barely working out - my understanding from what i've read and researched is that i was now eating "real" food with no fillers, so i was getting full with less meals throughout my day and my snacks were healthier versions of the junk snacks i was eating before and with less chemicals that cause cravings, so after my body detoxed i started losing weight ( i was down like 18 lbs. in the first 3 months with ZERO working out). Over processed foods contain "excitotoxins" that make you crave more food ( now i see why i was able to stuff my face with chinese food and other things even though i felt full already). While your stomach tells you you're full, your brain is getting hit by these chemicals that may be causing you to crave more. After making the switch, I went from eating until i was "stuffed" ,to eating until i was truly satisfied and my body started telling me "that's good enough" without experiencing any bloating or sluggish feelings after every meal no matter how big or small it was.

I still eat ice cream,waffles/pancakes, cereal, frozen pizzas/meals, energy drinks, cookies/cinnamon rolls/candy bars but i make sure they have the least amount of chemicals and are USDA Organic and/or Non GMO project certified. Yes unfortunately to those of you who know, there might be loopholes in this USDA Organic system and whatnot but at the moment, it is one of the only few ways to ensure there's a minimal amount of toxins in my food(unless i start growing everything i eat myself).

Some stuff can get expensive ( i had to slow down with my energy drinks and certain snacks), but if you think about it, you'll be eating less because you're eating a more whole meal with every meal instead of fillers that will make you go hungry within an hr or two. I also see it as "pay the farmer now, or pay the doctor later" .

I only had to work out, Mon-fri for 15(intense) minutes only for about 2 months to lose the last 10 lbs and get to my goal weight that i was on like 10 years ago. From 223 lbs. to 180 lbs. in approx. 5-6 months with improved numbers from my blood work.

I also am aware of which of my favorita brands got bought out by the junk food brands, so i drop them and find another brand that's still doing "cleaner" business.

Call me paranoid, extreme or whatever, it is what has worked for me the best and not only according to me, my friends and associates noticed the change in weight, complexion health and overall appearance without me bringing anything up. I've also not gotten sick since i started this , my Girlfriend was sick as heck all week last week, we sleep in the same room, i drank from the same cups and everything.... never got sick from the bug/flu she got which had been going around my area.

*Adding: i give myself one full all out cheat day every month, where everything i eat during the day is just plain junky food, no restrictions or rules. This satisfies my cravings for certain bad foods i do not eat regularly anymore, helps me realize how bad tasting a lot of the stuff i used to love is and makes me not miss it, it also makes my body feel like crap which in turn motivates me to get back on the health path. I'll eat sushi(minimal ingredient types) once or twice a week and thankfully i have a Farm-to-table restaurant nearby me in case i get the craving to go to a sit down restaurant and have a nice meal. Chipotle is also "alright" in my book for the most part for the occasional non cheat day weekend treat.

Sorry for the long post, it is an extensive topic with so many opinions and sides. if there are typos or whatever, my apologies, i'm at work right now .

Ive made the switch to organic/non GMO also.
I am getting off topic but they have linked GMO to auto -immune diseases so anyone with an auto immune disease should do the same.

Absolutely, that junk is linked to so many bad things, but i'm going to stop with the GMO reply because lately I've noticed that the topic of "dieting" is becoming as sensitive as religion, sports and politics.

I think something important to remember is that we are all different . For instance Rons diet would actually kill me and I thik my diet would actually kill him. Over time anyway:D

At one time I thought too many carbs were bad for me. Now I seem to need them. If you pay close attention to your body it tells you what to eat. Do what makes you feel healthy.

What may be good for one person may not be good for another .

Pesticides are not good for anyone unless you are over run with parasites and bugs.LOL
