In other news, the sky is blue
..Sorry for the long post, it is an extensive topic with so many opinions and sides..
ca.detailchick said:Funny when I was low carb for so many years and hardly eating anything I was 40 pounds overweight.
Now I eat high calorie/fat foods like eggs avocado, nuts, coconut and coconut oil and eat 3 times more then I used to I am 40 pound lighter.
I found out last year I had a hyperthyroid disorder...
That is awesome Accumulator! Good job on getting your Dad to the Dr and he must have been a good one.Not arguing the topic at all (hey, do what works for ya...I do), but on the subject of starchy carbs and the brain's energy source I just ran across an intersting study: The Importance of Dietary Carbohydrate in Human Evolution" by Karen Hardy et al, in The Quarterly Review of Biology (Sept. '15). Has a different spin on the topic, including the Paleo Diet idea. Sorry, no link handy.
While I harp about how starchy carbs are so awful, I do find that *I* have to eat some for optimal brainpower (not a lot, but some...more than some diets would allow) and I don't discern any downside.
No, no...interesting stuff. And you never know when some part of a lengthy exposition might be of great value to somebody. Going from 223 to 180 is great, and that sure didn't take you long!
Glad you allow yourself a Cheat Day, IMO most people need that kind of relief.
And !YES! regarding brief, intense workouts.
Hyperthyroidism or not, that's a great accomplishment and I commend you on taking the bull by the horns and getting things sorted out.
My father had the more common hypothyroidism, developed it in his 80's and thought it was "just part of getting older". I bugged him about it so much that he finally saw the Doc and sure enough...one Rx later and his workouts/enegery level got back on track.
