Help!!!!

I recently picked up a used BMW M3 and it had this horrible looking clear bra on it. It was starting to come off on some of the corners, so today I decided to peel it the rest of the way off.

Now there's this sticky tape-like residue left behind and I'm having a hell of a time getting it off. So far I've tried Meg's Gold car wash, bug & tar remover, and clay baring. The B&T remover has worked the best, but it's incredibly slow going and requires me scraping it off with my fingernail. Would Goo-Gone be of use here? Would it screw up the clear coat? Any suggestions would be appreciated, I'm at something of a loss here.

Try 3M Adhesive Remover or Goo Gone. I had a similar issue before removing pin striping that had turned to concrete and the adhesive wasn't budging. If you have any APC you can try that too with a general purpose MF towel. I remember trying undiluted APC (DP Hi-Intensity) and it worked almost as well as 3M Adhesive Remover. It'll take some scrubbing, so you'll have to polish afterwards. Just don't let Goo Gone or 3M Adhesive Remover sit on there too long.

P.s. If you're in a pinch you might be able to find 3M Adhesive Remover at a local auto parts store or fabric section of a big box store like Walmart or Target or Jo-anns fabrics.

What they said. I myself would expect the 3M to work best. Oughta be safe for OE b/c paint even with an extended dwell-time, but I'd sure be cautious.

I would try Rapid Remover since that what I have in my arsenal. Never tried 3m yet. If EVERYTHING fails I would try laquer thinner, but thats last resort

You good men are on the right track for sure...

DuPont used to make a great product for degreasing paint before tacking it down and painting it.. Was called Prep-Sol and then changed to another name later...

I also know that 3M Adhesive remover will remove this glue...

Perhaps you can try Stoner Tarminator in the spray can also..

It will come off but its not quick, so you just have to be methodical and patient..

The paintwork should be fine...

The glue will foul up whatever media (rags, towels, etc..) you use to remove it, so dont use the best ones for this as then it will be hard to get it out of that media, ok ?

You are on the right track with the expert advice above !!

Sigh, seems like all the (effective) products I grew up with are disappearing. Wonder what the new version is called.

Worst case, try dip remover from dip your car. It stripped the 3m spray clear bra right off audi instantly.

in the future, try using a heat gun on the wrap before pulling if off. it tends to help keep a lot of the glue on the wrap while removing it.

Whew, crisis averted! I first tried Goo Gone, which sorta kinda worked after a minute or two. If I didn't get it off in that first pass though, it seemed as though the Goo Gone hardened up the residue, which made it harder to remove. Then I moved onto the 3M Adhesive Removal and that did the trick. Sprayed on, let it set for 10 seconds, then started wiping. It gummed up and eventually came off in little globules. Didn't even bother trying to keep that microfiber towel, just chucked it in the trash can.

Thank for the help guys!

Glad to hear your problem is solved.

Out of curiosity here seeing as I've never had nor had to remove a clear bra... would WD-40 or an equivalent not work? I know I love it to remove adhesive (actually use it to remove bottle labels all the time before reusing for another product). I also use CRC Power-lube at work to remove old decals. On a side note, I really hope that us mechanics don't have to re-brand all the trucks once the company is sold.

RDKC- I guess this isn't really a good answer for you, but I never use lube/water displacement products for adhesive removal if only because they don't leave things as clean as an Adhesive Remover and I'm pretty careful about what stuff I get on my paint. Lots of lubes can really cause issues (ever try to repaint something treated with PB Blaster?) so I'd rather just sidestep the whole possibility. Yeah, I know WD40 is apparently fine in this regard and I don't hate the stuff, but I just like using Adhesive Removers to remove adhesives and !oh man! does the 3M stuff work great. Gee, guess it should since it's made for this by a pretty reputable company.

Just saw that someone responded to this. It wasn't a straight answer but at least you gave it a shot.

I actually have a bottle I 3M adhesive remover that I bought t the local O'Reilly while I was helping my brother debadge his truck. The question about WD-40 was sheer curiosity. I use it on the bottle because it removes the labels and removes the cakes on grease and oil. (Came from a shop. Lol)

More on topic, I know it works great on the adhesive from our vinyl unit numbers and the FAI stickers but not so great on the large decals we use or the 3M double sided tape so I was curious. Tried getting the boss to buy adhesive remover but he's okay with razor blade and the scratches that come with it.

Sent from my toilet using TapaTalk. You never know, do you?
