Coatings vs. Standard LSP'S discussion

So I am still torn. Right now, I have BF Crystal Coat and 22PLE Signature on my two rides. I found the shine very good but not as good as Zaino and that is what I am after. I don't mind washing the car and "topping or layering" any product so I am seriously considering going back to Zaino next year. I was looking at Car Pro CQuartz with reload/reset as that regime may work. I don't see anything like that with Optimum, but Gloss Coat looks incredible and I would love to try it. Also, I found this discussion very worthwhile and interesting since coatings are the future and I would rather use the best and most current technology as long as you get the best shine / reflectivity possible.
 
mbpress01- IMO Zaino has a true "signature look"; it's one of the very few LSPs I can often ID on a vehicle ("nice car, is that Zaino?".. "thought so..."). Is there some reason you want to try/use something else?

Heh heh, just reading your post makes me think that the ad-copy related to coatings is tempting you to go searching for the grail ;)

Appreciate the thought and right - I am totally looking for the "grail". Coatings are great for durability, but let's face it. Most daily drivers get nicks, scratches from towel wiping (my ridiculous lexus black paint get scratched if i sneeze on it) and swirls from brushing off snow in the winter, etc and Zaino gives probably 9 months of protection with z2 and clear seal. Plus the shimmering shine is something that I haven't seen on the two coatings I have done and my hunch is the same for all the rest. Once you figure out the Zaino process, it is easy and layering once a week after a quick rinseless is no work. Anymore thoughts appreciated but it looks like back to sealants for me.

One of the reasons for a coating is so that you reduce those marrings. On another note, if you have one of those finicky black paint jobs, even more reason to go with a coating. Of course using the right wash mitts, drying towels, mf towels is a must. Along with knowing how to wash the exterior. I used Zaino 10 years ago but when I read your weekly layering suggestion? I don't know. I much rather have a swirl free finish and just wash the car.

Appreciate the comment but I have bought the best of the best after hours of research (or so I think so). I am almost to the point of trashing towels after one use (which I have done a few times). I am still confused on what to do but part of me also likes to get the exercise and doing the layering just brings the reflectivity to a whole new level each time I do it. Maybe it is an optical illusion but the car sure does look great and better or the same each time I layer. I will probably try Gloss Coat next year on one of my rides as the shine from that product looks incredible (durability being second in importance). Optimum makes such good products I just wish there was an enhancer/booster to Gloss Coat. If I go down this path I will be using the whole optimum line as I like to keep everything the same since that is generally how they were intended to work. Any comments appreciated.

Over the last 13 years my wife was really impress 2x with the finish on our 2000 sienna van - first time was when I first used Zaino - second time was when I tried Gloss Coat. Btw, you can layer gloss coat like you are Zaino - I onced waxed this van 48 x in a year. I know what you mean by that look. Of course most importantly the paint should be in mint condition to begin with. So make sure to correct the paint as much as possible

I personally find 22ple to look better than both OC and cquk. Its also rock hard when it dries, more so than cquartz or OC. I have not tried opti gloss however, so I cannot speak on that one. Rasky had told me before he felt looks wise that cqfinest looked the best followed by 22ple, and OC being last. Of course finest is a dealer only coating. All that being said, usually the product that gives you "that look" is the only one that will give you that look if that makes sense.

For under $20...FK 1000p, Duragloss 105 can't be beat. Even prima hydromax spray sealant can easily go 5 months and I live in snow and salt country. I use a commercial touchless car wash in winter and never had any issues with the sealants I've mentioned holding up.

I wash and rinse my car with 0 TDS water from a 6 stage RODI system and I have had spotting issues with 22PLE and FK1000P. Weird since I washed my other black cars for years with Dallas, TX tap water and never had any problems with Zaino. I really think I'm going back to Z2Pro after I finish re-polishing my whole car for the third time since January.

That is weird. I wash and rinse my car with CR Spotless dual large system IF I wash in the sun. I use my compressor to blow out the cartages after the detail and I find I get more washes out of the media.

Never any spotting on OC 2.o, Gloss Coat, GTECH EXO v1, EXO v2, 22PLE or Polish Angel.

Is your spotting coming after a wash or after some time out in the real world driving?

Not sure, but from what I was told is this was developed by Sonax to prevent water spotting on their own coating that isn't sold in the USA. SPNS is a really nice looking sealant that holds up pretty well. Sort of a waxy look.
