To Opti-Gloss Coat or not?

Gloss Coat it. The most important part of vehicle maintenace is PROPER WASHING. Coat it and use the extra time you save by being extra careful in your proper wash method.

Gonna be doing spot-correction?

That's perhaps the primary reason why I don't use coatings on anything except wheels.

And leaving looks aside, for a vehicle that's used ~2K a year (sounds like some of mine) how hard is it to put on a coat or two of LSP annually?

Protection will be situation-specific (some need more/less) and, well...I said we'd leave looks aside, but the (conventional) LSPs that give the best protection IME don't have the looks that some are after.

Prep matte stripes with clay? I wouldn't think that's a good idea and I'm all about *VERY* gentle claying. But then I've never tried it, either...

Clayed them already, no issues or problems.

Cool, sure.

Heavily leaning towards OGC and since it can be topped, topping with WG 2.0 before shows. Just curious about how OGC will look on matte black stripes, what's the best way to prep them besides clay? Will a light wipe with a MF towel buff down a high spot on matte black stripes?

I'm not sure. But I think I remember reading a long while back that Dr. G said OC can be used on stripes but has to have multiple layers due to the porosity of the stripes.

I like to clean/prep them with a vinyl cleaner, but I've not really touched matte in a long while. I remember matte being a little finicky. Also I might imagine that you can knock down high spots the same way, but no experience with coating stripes.

Here's a little comparison video I did on two vinyl cleaners:

Do what you want, but you'll grow tired of just washing your car. Its not enough alone time to satisfy

How long does it take you to wash your car and get it looking like you like it?

The less "rubbing" on the paint, the better the chances to mimimalize marring. Plus the looks of Gloss Coat are just as good as any other LSP. Win/Win

coat that paint please and save the CC. like other have said better protection and if by chance you get some marring or swirls the coating is your sacrificial layer.

This task is not burdensome to me, I enjoy washing and waxing it and it doesn't take long at all, it always has several layers of protection so the dirt comes right off. See the dilemma is I know coatings offer the best protection, but I enjoy putting a nice glaze and nuba on this car and it doesn't take much effort. My daily drivers are coated because they are outside 24/7.

I know, I know but the dilemma is amore about doing a nice rinseless in the garage and topping it with a fresh coat of glaze or nuba and then taking it out for a blast. Besides I am not too worried about swirls, my previous 10 GT500 was corrected and maintained several years with no swirls.

My observations:

- You don't mind washing (low maintenance)
- Its a garage queen (it is protected from outdoor weather)
- You don't drive it much (minimum mileage outdoor)
- Paint is already corrected giving it amazing gloss (prep'ed for any LSP)
- One read I review claimed opti-gloss coat didn't deliver a gloss finish (no added gloss)

In that case, use whatever LSP you like and apply it often when you wash.
