Is zymol used better with a buffer?



Can scratch x BE USED with a PC?



are these products any good, i just picked up both
 
What Zymol are you talking about? If it's HD-Cleanse I'm pretty sure it only hides them, and specifically states that it shouldn't be used with a buffer. I think Scratch X can be used with a buffer, but I'm not sure - personally I'd of thought it would dry out too quickly...

Scratch X is great for "spot polishing" any marring or scratches by hand. I'm sure there are more effective polishes/cleaners to use by machine.



Right now I'm not using a PC (plan to change that eventually) so when I do get an occasional scratch or marring Scratch X works great. I don't do big sections of the car though. Just a bit here and there as needed. For example, I've used Scratch X to remove leftover bug etching, water spots and the light scratch on my front bumper. It's not used as an overall glaze or wax.



I've always thought of Zymol as a wax or filler glaze. IMO they are in two different leagues.
 
:nixweiss :think: I'd like to know the reason as well. Scratch X isn't particularly abrasive to me, no more than something like 3M SMR or Meg's #9, but I use it by hand. Just seems to me that you could use something more cost effective (you don't get much in a tube of Scratch X for $8) and with the choices of polishes and cleaners out there there are better choices.
 
Authentic Zymol is a different animal than a polish. I don't think there could be any comparison between the two. An authentic Zymol wax will not remove anything, whereas scratch-X may make short work out of swirls and streaks. This is what I am thinking of in terms of Zymol. Zymol only makes an HD Cleanse as a somewhat abrasive product (paint cleaner). It isn't meant for correcting paint issues.
 
As previously stated, Zymol HD Cleanse is meant to clean only and your paint better be in pretty good condition to begin with. It may be mildly abrasive (I think it has a clay component), but you have to work at removing mild oxidation; swirls, forget it.
 
mike phillips on meguiarsonline.com used a PC to apply ScratchX , and he said its not the best product to be used by machine. If memory serves me correctly, the product gets gummy when its used by machine, is difficult to get off, and is not very effective overall.



If you are using a PC why on earth would you bother anyways? Unless you're tight on the cash money, but in my opinion, a gummy pad is not worth saving a few bucks on polish.

That is the reason and from reading on the forum. Also someone said that on the bottle it says specifically not to use by machine, so I just made it in bold so he doesn't damage his paint :)...

I don't wish to contradict you Jinba, so forgive me for doing it. :D



ScratchX is actually very abrasive. Its an excellent scratch remover but strong...i think its equivalent to 5 on the Megs scale, if I remember correctly. The reason it can leave a good finish while being so aggressive is that the abrasives break down very quickly with little effort.



I happen to do a test yesterday on a metalic midnight blue resprayed Jag. I had both ScatchX and Mothers Scratch Remover handy, so decided to do a comparison on a few defects to see how each product worked. Everything shows up on that colour.



ScratchX was more abrasive than Scatch Remover and removed more of the defect quicker. The downside was that it left some marring. The Mothers was less abrasive but left a flawless finish. So I used ScratchX to remove the bad stuff and finished with Mothers to leave a nice finish.



I can also highly recommend PowerPolish if you have a PC.
