Zymol Vintage owners

Well, you have to ship it to Zymol and then you have to pay for them to send it back to you. If you want insurance and all that fun stuff then it can get expensive. Vintage said in post #5 that it costs him about $85 to send it back and forth for refills.

I telephoned Zymol this morning regarding Monterrey Sample Kit which had the 4oz each of Destiny, Vintage and Atlantique estate waxes. They informed me that this kit stopped being manufactured about 2 years ago. I telephoned several resellers and most sold out by Jan '06. When I told them I didn't want to spend $1800+ on estate waxes like Vintage, they suggested I try Titanium ($60-75) which has about 51% carnuba content (90% yellow, 10% clear) compared to 61% (white only) in Vintage. I have ordered 8oz of Titanium and 16oz bottle of HD cleanse today and will revert my results. I still have some Vintage left in my sample kit for comparison.

I beleive it is just not the % of carnuba that makes a wax good. It's the total package. The quality of oils and waxes that makes the package complete.

I agree that percentage of carnuba alone shouldn't be deciding factor of wax quality; however, Titanium, Destiny, Ital, Vintage, Atlantique, Royal are all Zymol estate waxes. The percentage of carnuba is almost directly proportionate to price with Royale topping at 71% white carnuba and the highest price tag $7,000+. I am not sure is there is an appreciable difference amongst the estate glazes. I will admit that Vintage can seem a bargain becuase it is refillable where Destiny will by $500+ per tub. When I ordered my Zymol products today, I was told that Zymol is going to have price increase. HD Cleanse was going from $39 to $42. I do not know how estate waxes are going to be effected.

Vintage has gone up in price. What they first said it cost is not what I paid. I asked them to honor a price they gave me 1 month ago. And they did.

Good luck with it. Make sure that you get the process down cold. I would really hate to hear that you spent the money and for some reason it ends up not performing to your liking. I remember a little bit about perhaps some confusion with the application process with the Concours when you tried it (I think). I'm not putting down any product per se, but Concours, to me, had absolutely no problem with competing against Pinnacle or some other waxes as I've observed. The process of spreading the Vintage is the same as it would be with Concours, so that's why I am advising some caution.

To this day, some of the most amazing shots of yours truly were of the times when it had a good application of Concours. Also, the real talent of the zymols isn't necessarily the gloss; Its the color rendering and reflective qualities that the waxes are capable of producing.

Good luck, and keep us updated.

I'll second that. I completed a car yesterday with Concours & the thing looked so much "bluer" when I'd finished. The reflections were (dare I say it) markedly clearer & deeper than my Zaino'd car. I liked the concours so much I'm havng me a jar.

Thanks, Do you go straight from HD to Vintage. Or do add some glaze first?

HD-Cleanse *is* a glaze.

I'd recommend that you only apply vintage to a freshly corrected and polished car.

After polishing, do a quick IPA wipedown. Then apply the HD-Cleanse as per the directions (and good luck with it. OMG, I hate HD-Cleanse), then apply the vintage per directions.

To remove every trace of any of the polishes. I usually use scratch resistant polishes like SIP 2.0 and 106ff. They seem to like to leave behind oils/residue, which may or may not be compatible with the HD-Cleanse or Vintage. Best to start with a *completely* clean paint surface prior to using HD-Cleanse and an estate glaze.

Yup. HD Cleanse is great for hand prepping, but if your paint has issues that needs to be addressed by either a PC or Rotary, then that's the first thing that you should do.

After the paint is set arrow straight, then you can decide on either the HD Cleanse or any proven paint cleaner that you feel safe with.

Hmmm, this whole time I was under the impression that HD-Cleanse was basically a paint cleaner.

It is a paint cleaner and acts as a filler as well. The Kapolite softens the edges of fine scratches. On daily drivers and friend's cars, I have many times found good success and beautiful results using KAIO and then topping with Vintage. I've always raved about using P21S Concours over KAIO especially on darker cars. Vintage has even more stunning results than the P21S. For Zymol purists like me, HD Cleanse is still the way to go. Even if your paint is properly prepared, HD Cleanse is still a pain to apply/take off. I've found that closing the garage door, especially on a hot day, helps a lot.

Everyone is complaining about Poorboy's prices going up? Take a look at the Zymol site. Same thing there. How do you think we Zymol loyalists feel whenever we need to stock up on stuff like HD Cleanse and Clear? Well, I'm glad I got in on my Vintage when I did - YEARS ago. I guess I'll just hang on to my remaining jars of Ital :hm

HD-Cleanse is a cleaner in the same way that Menzerna Final Touch Glaze and Klearkote RMG are cleaners; they do clean the paint, and they leave fillers and oils behind. That's the "glaze" part. HD-Cleanse is nothing more than yet another glaze in the same category as MFTG and RMG. However, according to Zymol, you should only use HD-Cleanse prior to Vintage.

My car is completely LSP free at the moment. I'm going to spend some time shining it up with 106ff, then a layer of Vintage. Prior to the Vintage, I'm going to use Menzerna's Final Touch Glaze instead of the HD-Cleanse. It's going to be a durability experiment...

I saw the hint of the price increase with Calcarcovers listing their Zymol waxes. My eyes practically fell out of the sockets!!!! They raised their prices a little over a year ago, go figure. As much as I love their products, the issue with their prices still remains as an area of contention. The increase may be linked to the price of petroleum, but it is still hard, very difficult at times, getting over the mortgage sized prices of some of their finest waxes. Admittingly, that is an area of hate that I still have with Zymol..........despite their brilliant waxes!!
