Zymol Royal On A Vectra?

Hmm, were i was going with my post was to say that i think some people are mislead by what they need or want.



I post on one or two boards where there are pro-detailers. I am not a pro detailer just someone who likes to have some fun i have been forunate enough to try alot of products and really just have opinions.



A guy had asked some questions on a forum and in the end opted for a professional machine polish, glaze (#7), Zymol Rouge.



He asked me what i thought and i said it would probably look nice it will get of the swirls and few months later he can change LSP etc. and do what he wants.



I suppose he then went away and checked out other forums or got advice from others. He asked me what i thought of HD cleanse and i said how much will it cost?? He said the detailer is charging another £35 ($68) to step up to it in replacement of the glaze.



I replied if there is any difference its not worth £35 ($68). In the end he said he had opted for it as it was the proper way to go. Im just not sure it was to be honest.



I dont believe it was worth the £35 just that there is almost this pressure for people getting details to go down a Zymol or Swissol route which i dont know if its best.



Who am i to decided whats best, but just my opinon i suppose. I just feel that its an industry which is unregulated and prices seem to be rising and how much more are customers getting more for there money??

Seriously you cant post on a forum if you cant take criticism.......



I respect every single persons opinion with my car because at the end of the day its no bugatti but what it is to me is special because i follow british touring cars and the Vauxhall team raced these last season......



I think the thing to remember about anyones car is that you have to enjoy it regardless of cost , make , model etc.....



What i will say about Paul though is that i have never met anyone who pays so much attention to detail........



If you read the whole thread on detailing world which i have put a link up to you will see that during the inspection he found a point on the roof under a illuminated magnifier that had a blemishe pushing through the top coat and that had no clearcoat on it......



He pointed this out to me aswell as showing me and informed me to let my dealwership know due to possible problems in the future.....



Guys this was like a pinhead and i would be embarrased to go in and point it out...



its near the middle.....out of focus because i couldnt see it through the lense???

He has people from all over the world emailing him 24/7 and it never stops.....

That's a good example of the issue tbh.



A bottle of HD Cleanse doesn't cost £35 and 1/8th of a bottle certainly doesn't.



Presumably it doesn't take any longer to apply than using #7?



So where does the £35 figure actually come from? :)
 
The £35 comes from taking advantage of people who can be told anything and probably believe it!!



Next there will paint inspection charge using a laptop like the in post :chuckle:

With respect to the laptop and software i think that what Paul does regarding paintwork correction is basically a neccesity when detailing a vehicle worth $500,000$ as i cant see any other way...



Paintwork correction is taking the points of the clearcoat down to a maximum of the lowest points on the panel to ensure an even playing field for maximum reflection...By logging this on a graph Paul can determine exactly how much clearcoat can be skimmed off at any point without breaking the 8 micron rule!!!!I do not understand how someone without a pdg can blatantly polish away without knowing exactly how deep they are going eventually cutting away 10 , 15 , 20 microns which may well look ok and shiny but will ultimatly end up with clearcoat failure in the future...This is something i discussed with a technician at Dupont and he clarified this to me that a clearcoat will stress fracture and cause failure!!!



How can a detailer do a professional job without one? Any thoughts?

No i agree he could certantly put it to good use on his fine details.



That was not in relation to Paul.



What i was saying was how many detailers could knock on a similar system (less expenditure) and then evvvverrrryyyone has one for that vital £80 assessment??



My whole concern is really how much are other consumers benefitting from other detailers following his practise. Not that there is anything wrong with his practise. Does Mr Average who is already stepping up to more expensive products need to go ANOTHER step!!

No i agree in some respects there i suppose its horses for courses...



If paul is detailing a Ferrart Enzo more for his own protection than anything i feel he would do the full paintwork readings whether a customer required or asked for it or not specifically so he would know himself how much he has to play with....



If i read your quote correctly am i assuming that what your meaning is does the average guy who wants a professional detail on say a ford pickup (dont know american cars sorry!!) require such a high level of technicalitys?



Surely there is someone who would do the job for less money and make a very good job that the owner would be happy with.....Im sure there is but that would nt be Paul in this instance as he treats every car the same regarding make , model when requiring paintwork correction but i believe he offers his services without this.....



I understand we are not specifically talking about Paul here but just using Paul as an example!!

vrxmarc, do you happen to know which brand/model of magnifier he is using? If not could you find out, please? Thank you in advance!
 
Seems that VXRMarc is a great publicist for Paul's work, and certainly that car shines.



what is a 3M PPS colour checklight?
 
i think #80 with some NXT on top would do the same !!!

I believe he has an agent:sosad



3M check light basically from what i remember him telling me is a light that shows all defects in the paintwork regarding swirls , scratches, and also colour change in the paintwork especially across panels......I think:nervous2:
 
I really cannot believe that you would think it could do the same.......



Put it this way i am not saying it wont be good.......but not in the same league!!!!



We had done extensive tests on the royale on half bonnet of partners car because once me and paul had put 4 layers on i had a bad bee in my bonnet about Zaino which i personally think is one of the best sealents around? agree? Disagree?



So i told Paul i wanted it all ripped off and done again with Zaino underneath instead of hd cleanse as i believed that with zainos reflective qualitys and royales depth and wet look it must surely be the best combination around provided i could get the royale to bond on the zaino......



So these were my results.......



We applied royale to the right hand side of the bonnet after hd cleanse and waited 6 hours and buffed and field glazed to a massive shine and at the same time we applied zaino z1 then z2pro with zfx drops to shorten cure time on the left hand side...We then waited and applied another 2 layers of zaino in the 24 slot before revealing the new bonnet.....

The results speak for them selves......



The royale side is darker and more deep blue and look at the zymol logo on the wall....Its sharper and the products are so much more refined and zaino is supposed to give a better reflection over a carnauba wax......but not royale...nothing can touch it in these fields......



I was really surprised and a little disapointed that the zaino muted the result as i truly believed i would have a much glossier wet looking car but i didnt...



Paul agreed so we left it.....One happy customer!!!
 
Well i hope for regulation of UK detailing industry!! To many people, maybe not you, maybe not Paul but certantly others costing people more money then they need!!



And that is wrong!! One thing is choice one thing is taking advantage RE: my previous post!!

No absolutly agree as i have known detailers that have done friends of mines cars but never give instructions at the end about how to keep the car swirl free or what products to use etc inthe hope they,ll be called back in 3 months....Wrong!!!!!



A good detailer should always give advice to a customer to help them look after their car!:up :up

I have destiny , concours and titanium aswell as zaino , pinnacle , p21,s , fk1 to name a few.......



The zymol t-shirt was a murder hunt trying to track down including emailing Diane at zymol of which unfortunatly she couldnt get me one!!!!



In the end i sourced one in the uk ......

Uh-oh, that's going to make some people unhappy.

With respect to your paint thickness guage question, unless someone is doing a very high end, multiple step/heavy correction detail, or maybe dealing with a suspect repaint, there isn't a real need to measure paint thickness. One of the best pros in America, Joe of Superior Shine, actually did a polishing test and was able to polish out wetsanding marks without measurably reducing the level of clear coat.
