Zymol Lifetime Refills

Is anybody here a Zymol member that gets free lifetime refills of Zymol Vintage or other high-end waxes? Is it worth $1,800 a jar?
 
I hate to do this, but..



I'm not a member, and I can still tell you no wax is worth that much per jar (this is of course, in my own opinion).



Even with lifetime refills, how often are you going to refill it?
 
to some it may be worth it. but, i could never justify spending that much $$$$ on any wax regardless if you get lifetime refills....
 
That might work if you ran a pro detailing business.. it would be an interesting selling point to say that you top every car with a $1800 show car wax, and if they really honor the free lifetime refills, it shouldn't be out of the question.. For anything other than that, it hits diminishing returns - how many times are you going to apply the wax? If you're maintaining a whole fleet of cars, it could work out in the long run.

diffinitely a good marketing strategy to hook in new clients or justify a price increase. it would be nice to get a free sample to see the results first hand
 
Has anyone here ever actually used or seen the stuff on a vehicle? I'm sure it's a bit overpriced, but I suppose that if Bill Gates was an Autopian, that might be his go to wax.

I'm not really sure where this "1 per year" rumor started, but a guy on another detailing forum stated he called Zymol and refills are unlimited, but there is a three week turn around time. Also, you have to pay to ship back the empty container and then also pay the shipping on the full container being sent back to you. I haven't personally called and verified this, but I've also never seen any fine print on Zymol.com stating that there is a limit on refills.



I have a 4 oz. jar of Vintage (no free refills and MUCH cheaper) and I can honestly say it's a great wax. I would never ever pay $1500 for the larger, free refill jar though. Unless of course I became so rich that I was looking to give away money, but I don't see that happening any time soon. I will also say that I've put Vintage up against other waxes like P21S, DP Max Wax, Pinnacle Soveran, Megs #16, and others and IMO the Vintage gives the deepest & wettest shine. Vintage is definitely not an extremely durable wax though. I get maybe 4-6 weeks out of one coat.
 
No. When zymol says unlimited, that's exactly what they mean. As far as the price, even as a zymol user, I'd have to say that it is hard to justify. To some, the benefit and the added novelty of free refills justifies the expense. To others that require occasional wax, then the price would be excessive.



My view of zymol harps on their results. My old adage is this: The only way anyone will ever know how good (or not so good) it is against other waxes is to do an evaluation with live sampling and good digital photos in different lighting sessions. Photos alone won't be enough to judge a wax because your eye and the feel of the products will have a much larger impact of how well (or not) a zymol works. The pictures can, however, reveal how well the image of reflection and how deep the image will look against competing waxes.



You dont have to spend thousands of dollars, mind you, to enjoy Zymol. Zymol has many waxes that are reasonable in price and are widely available.



So in sum, Zymol's prices are outrageous. Their results, if you are asking me, I would say are quite potent if handled right.



PS: I will be trying out Vintage (I am living dangerously by doing this) for the first time in a week or so; So I'll tell you whether this stuff actually will best my previous Zymol Concours. This might be a hard fight.....I am dying to find out!

I was formerly using Concours. Since I got a small jar of Vintage, my Concours has been sitting unused.
 
That is what I am a little afraid of. Did Vintage significantly improve the finish over (the already incredible) Concours??? I guess I'll find out soon. To go against one of my rules, I guaged a vintage against a concours from a few photos.......and it did appear that the vintage was more animated than concours assuming that the prep was the same. I've seen concours do amazing things, however.



This will be interesting....

I would say there was a definite difference between Vintage and Concours. The Vintage leaves a smoother finish and leaves a deeper & wetter shine.



I bought the Pebble Beach sampler kit a couple years ago. It had 4oz. each of Vinatge, Destiny, and Atlantique. I started with the Vintage and two years later am almost out of it. I only use it on my peronal car which is a tiny convertible and I switch to a more durable wax during the winter. So 4 oz. has lasted a while for me. I'm not sure if they still sell this kit, but I've seen 4 oz. jars of Vintage for sale on e-bay. The kit though not only comes with the three waxes, but also HD-Cleanse, Clear (wash), a detail brush, and a microfiber towel. For the $179 I paid for it, I thought it was a good deal considering the price of the products individually.

It would be neat to try applying wax with your bare hands, but I'm never going to spend that much money on a detailing product. Souveran is the most expensive wax I'll ever use.

Actually . . . that's Zymol Royale Glaze. It costs about $7K. You can tell it's Royale because the container is a double jar of wax. Vintage comes in a similar case, but is a single jar.



I've been applying wax bare handed for years. It makes it REALLY easy to put on a thin coat because your skin won't hold as much wax on it as a foam applicator or microfiber or cotton. However, it's not going to make the finish look any better that's what polishing is for.
 
Right. The applicator soaks up too much of the wax. You do not need as much wax on the paint with the Zymols bc they are very potent. Your hand will be more exacting IMO in terms of putting the glaze on the panel, and as Zymol directs, the glaze has to melt to a spreadable consistency via the heat of your hands.



Thanks for giving me the heads up on Vintage. To be honest, I haven't yet had problems with Zymol's durability (but that might be because I am a waxaholic). I would agree that a couple of passes with a Zymol and then asking it to last in the weather might be a stretch. My car, though, is covered most of the time. I have found that even with it covered, I'll still have the sheen, but it will have a more "mature-as I like to call it" composure to it. I have also noticed that after a few months in the winter, the texture is less moist. Most waxes, as I've experienced, will become less moist after 4-6 months duration.



As far as the comparison between other waxes.........I've done my comparison, so I won't even discuss that topic until a curious person actually compares (and not in the magazines) an authentic zymol to souveran or any other comparable wax. Actually that is the reason WHY I'm broke right now................lol!!
 
My understanding is that Zymol lasts about 1/2 hours. $1,500- give me a break. The guys who sells it has got to be the world greatest sales person. My hat is off to him.
 
I suppose that if you used as much wax as this guy might, the lifetime refills might be worth it. Then again, what happens if you spend the money on the wax, and Zymol goes out of business. Or some big company buys them up, and doesn't offer refills?
