ZR1 redux

15.5" disc in front and 15.0" disc in rear. Slotted and cross-drilled "carbon-fiber" disc - largest size of any production vehicle.:xyxthumbs
It will have the largest rear brakes that I know of, but the F430 Scuderia has slightly larger front brakes.

I look forward to seeing the first person to paint all the skirting/plastic body color, that will look good! Can't wait to see this on the street! I wish GM would do more with the interior tho. At this price range you really should get better.

Well, you can get a full leather interior on the ZR1. It will be interesting to see what it looks like in person. Personally I don't see what's wrong with the C6 based interior. It's not amazing but it's not cheap looking either.

I think most people buying a Corvette would rather have a $45k car that is fast fast fast and with an acceptable interior, than a $60k car that is fast fast with a really nice interior. :nixweiss

Of course the ZR1 is bigger money, but they are also trying to keep it light. I guess we'll see if buyers are turned off by the interior or really don't care about stuff like that. I suspect with 700+ hp only a pulley swap away, most buyers won't care much about the interior.

FYI on the GT, if the ZR1 comes in at $100k, the Ford GT is 50% more expensive. So it's not surprising it would have a nicer interior.

I'm sure they won't be turned off if they add a set of drag radials and go high 9's all day long either!!! If this car can hook, look the hell out. :woohoo:

The only thing I wish GM would do is make their interior scream $100K car. I still hate the interior on these things. Too plain for my taste and I'd like to see at least a momo style steering wheel.

Put I do like the car.

However, for the price I think I would of liked to have a Ford GT better.

Agreed. However, the interior is not as bad as it can be - ever driven a Dodge Viper? My goodness :hairpull

I agree about the Ford GT - would much rather have it. Hell, even Jeremy Clarkson, the epitome of American car bashers, loves the GT. The interior is great as well (although I haven't had the privilege of seeing one in person, let alone drive one).

For a $100K car that competes (beats) with cars 2-3 times it's cost, I'd be willing to sacrifice some looks on the interior. It's a sports car after all, which means it's main purpose for being built is speed & performance. How can someone have a legitimate complaint when their spending that much and getting that much raw power in that league of sportscar?

I don't remember the interior (or the exterior for that matter) on a Ford GT jumping out at me either.

..but way ahead of any of it's competition. (Personal experience demonstrates the 450+hp will delivered 23-27 mpg. Yes, Scott the best of both worlds - Honda mileage if desired or 0-60 in 3.6 with 1-2 mpg. :woot:)

Porsche tried to change their formula for success with the introduction of the 928 and 924/944 series in the 80's. Thankfully, they realized the mistake and return to their original plan and have not diverge from this path (excluding SUV) since.

I see no reason for GM to follow the beat of another drummer when their present plan is true to their past and success. :hifive:

Guys you must have forgotten about the original C4 ZR-1, which had the LT-5.....The LT-5 infact, had DOHC. Only 375HP, which for the mid 90s was very impressive. Lotus actually designed the engine. Pushrods FTW!:bow

Heck, the Viper's interior isn't exactly winning awards, either.

Yeah, I wish they could be more high tech like Ferrari or something. It's better to have 480hp and 16mpg economy than 505hp and 25mpg economy. I'm sure Chevy is embarrassed by that.

That's like me saying my Hybrid really gets 49 MPG!

I absolutely promise you I haven't forgotten about that car. I have a constant reminder sitting right there in the garage:

FYI, it is not the original ZR-1. In 1970 to 1972, there was a ZR1 option on Corvette, a high-performance package that included the LT1 engine, heavy duty M22 tranny, HD brakes, suspension, etc.

Looks like a 1990 ZR-1 to me? Wide wheels / rockers...

Were the 3rd brake lights built into the bumper on 90 ZR-1's or on the roof? How else can you tell from your pic?

The convex bumper and black body line molding can only be a 1990 ZR-1. The 3rd brake light was on the roof for all ZR-1's, though the 1991 regular Corvette (and all convertibles) had it in the rear bumper. I suspect the cost of retooling the bumper for a low-volume car is why the Z kept it up top. Plus of course the downforce it adds!

In that picture you could make out the wider body if you have an eagle eye. I find it hard to tell. Easier to spot is the lower rocker panels. They curve back out near the bottom. On a standard Corvette it does not.

Ehhh, David did you see the picture of the 32 valve engine??;)

Heheh, that of course is the easiest way! :D I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that the site it was hosted on was flaking out. :)

Lastly you could tell from the license plate on the wall. ;)

I forgot I was on my company's connection and the motor pic didn't load. I disconnected and there it was - plain as day. That's thing's huge!!! Sweet.

Just wait till Car and Driver or Motor Trend do a story, my bet is that it'll be the best bang for the buck and they'll still nit-pick it to death, though the glowing review of the Malibu may be a sign of change.
