Zanio on Silver

Hi again everyone,



Been browsing the site for a while, and now that spring is almost here I feel its time to detail the car again after winter. The last time it was done was October (sealant choice was AG SRP, EXP, P21S), and I just added a coat of P21S every two weeks to it up to now. So the car has about 18 or so coats of P21S on it and still looks stunning. :werd:



Although after browsing the site some more I noticed that more and more people are talking about Zanio on silver paint. What I would probably go with is Z2-Pro, ZFX and the Z-7 car wash and maybe add Z8 every month or so. I'm just wanting your oppions on Zanio as I don't mind buying new products, I just want them to give me the results I'm after.

Zaino is excellent on any color. As I have said before Zaino gives me the look I am after and requires little maintenance for that show car shine. Especially the Z8 its untouchable.

I've had Zaino on my car for a year now. Maintained with washes using qew and S&G. It's just now starting to loose it's beading and protection. Overall i'm very impressed with the Zaino.
 
That's right, it's all in the prep. These steps can be achieved with a good buffer ie. PC or Cyclo.



Get you a good polish. Optimum Polish & if you need for heavier swirls and imperfections Optimum Compound or you can just order the Z-PC from what I have heard it's great stuff. First wash, then clay. After that use Z-PC or OP to polish. If using OP after you finish removing all the imperfections and swirls go over the car with IPA (isopropyl alcohol) to remove any residue then do your Z2-Pro with ZFX. If your using Z-PC there is no need to clean with IPA after you polish.



But once your paint is fully polished and your satisfied with the way it looks apply your LSP and be prepared to be amazed!

Your right. And with all things being equal (prep) for me nothing touches Zaino.

The car only really requires a little bit of polishing and I usully put Meg's #7 glaze onto and that is OUTSTANDING on silver IMHO. There are a few scratches in the paint but I'm thinking of getting a company to fill them in rather than remove a lot of paint to level it out.



So far it looks like Zanio is gonna be on order this month! Just one other question though. Is it ok to use other QD's on Zanio (I have two bottles of Meg's Quik Detailer in the garage) or do I need to use Zanio stuff. I intend to use Z8 every month or so as it is VERY expensive for regular use and normal QD with every Z-7 wash to keep it shiny and easy to clean.

As far as removing a lot of paint actually when you polish you remove a VERY negligible amount of your clearcoat.



Yes, it's ok to use other QD's to detail your car. I use Mothers QD right now. I've heard Z8 goes a LONG way so even though it's expensive you get your moneys worth.

I know that polish doesn't remove that much paint, but the scraches that are present are very deep and so I feel it is better to get them repaired - well that's really the only option for them I think. :wall



Anyhow, I may consider buying polish too as right now I use Meg's Step 2 stuff but it isn't really the best. It will be applied by hand (no PC yet) so I want something that either masks faint swirls and imperfections and gives a good shine. Is Optimum suitable or are one of Zanio's better for compatiblity reasons?

I don't think that Optimum would be good using by hand, I could be wrong though. I'll let others chime in on this. As far as compatibility issues. There are none when using Optimum then using Z2-Pro. As a matter of fact that was the combo I used just reciently and my car looks great. However I also used a PC 7424 with the Optimum. You might be better off with a product that fills the swirls and scratches if your not using a PC.

I was thinking about a product that would fill the swirls and scraches as removing them by hand isn't easy even when they are light.



So I am thinking about "Z-5 Show Car Polish for Swirl Marks and Fine Scratches". Anyone have any oppionions on this? I noticed it says "World's Best Car Polish" on the bottle but I would prefer some one to tell me that no the manufacturer, and to be honest I know its not but if it will do the job thats fine with me.

I've bounced around starting with Meguiars, then Zaino, then Klasse's old formulation, then back to Zaino. So far nothing comes close to producing the results I like. Prep is everything though, so use at least a claybar if not some of their fusion product to get a clean slate with minimal swirls. I've found that Z5 doesn't hide much so don't rely on it for hiding swirls.



I've been spray rinsing my car all winter and now it is starting to lose the beading, so it lasts a long time if you do it right from the start.

Thanks for the advice and info on the Zanio products, I wouldn't have though Z5 would hide everything but there arn't many swirls on my paint anyways.



My process will be something like,



Wash (Z7),

Clay (Meg's Quik Clay),

Wash (Z7),

Meg's Step 1,

Meg's ScratchX,

Meg's #7,

Z-5,

Z2-PRO (ZFX'ed) x3.



Then after a couple of weeks I will start applying Z8 to the mix every 2 weeks.



To be entirely honest I don't mind if its not too durable, I just want to get the end result I'm after.

There lies a problem. Zaino claims that its sealants won't bond to anything but a bare surface, so #7 would be a bad choice to use before applying Z5.
 
The pictures of my car have no polishing. Just a layer of z5 and then a layer of z2 pro. There are no swirls or scratches in that picture and you could not see any under halogen or sunlight.
