Zaino'd the Type-R [3.14MB in pics]

Well, I detailed the Integra Type-R a couple days ago and just washed it a few hours ago so I decided to take some pictures. It got a little bit dirty but its a daily driver, its supposed to do that. It's a 2001 Integra Type-R with 26,000 miles (and a salvage title due to theft).

Process:

Wash: Dawn soap

Claybar: Zaino clay

Polish: Z-5 [+ZFX] with gloss enhancing spray between coats, 3 coats total

I still need to do some more Z-5 coats then I'll do the Z-2 coats and really get an impressive shine. This is just with Z-5, which isn't as optically pure as the Z-2. But you came here for pics, so here they are.

The Type-R sitting on the street, which is unfortunately the "garage" that it sits in.

Obligatory poster-in-reflection shot.

Shot from the back.

One of my favorite angles to shoot a car from.

005.jpg

Recaro SRD seats; incredible side bolstering, and quite performance-oriented. I love these things.

Here's what the Recaros look like from the front.

Showing off the red badge and the blue flake.

Is this the car or the side of the street? Oh wait, it's the side of the car.

Ricers like me love these shots.

Oh yes, I am the CEO of Uncle Ben's boxed rice.

Roof, which admittedly isn't as cool as the side of the car.

Ultra-high resolution pics will be uploaded soon, and if anyone's interested I'll post the final result after the Z-5 coats and the Z-2 coats to top it off.

Looks clean and good. But if it were me, I would properly prep the car before hand. In the picture where you took the red Acura badge, heavy swirls are clearly visible.

Nice and reflective!

Before you go more with Zaino, you really want to spend the time removing the spider webbing and any scratches as Zaino does bring them out more.

Still, damn nice for a daily driver... You should see my Escort Wagon.. Malox White and nasty as hell. Great test car for products.

Keep working on it as it will only get better!

Regards,

Deanski

Good job. I love Type R's in any color, but your pics remind me how challenging metallic black can be. I'm not sure I can handle the maintenance. (i.e. swirls, etc)

My 2001 Type R in Championship white is a little more forgiving. It doesn't have the depth of black, but it's amazingly easy to keep clean and shiney.

Nice Type-R!!! I don't see many around anymore. Get that thing into a garage though!

Great job, it looks very nice! :up

Looks good,

but It looks like you have some oxidation, swirls, and paint contamination...all of which can be repaired by polishing and claying

I don't have any oxidation or paint contamination, I don't think. I washed with Dawn, clayed, and did some swirl remover on some sections, but it wasn't enough. I thought Z-5 would have gotten rid of it, as it says that it fills in those imperfections. I'll try 3 more coats of Z-5 before moving onto Z-2 in hopes that the swirls will be hidden. I'll repair them next time I guess. Thanks for all the replies.

I'm sure a lot of others would say the same - I'd fix the swirls before adding additional layers of Zaino...

Anyhow, salvage title w/ theft... what was stolen? What engine do you have in there now? I'd be scared of parking an ITR out on the street like that, especially here in California.

Do you have any mods planned for the future?

Your car looks nice.

Don't waste a bunch of Zaino on it until you take care of your prep work. z5 WILL NOT fill scratches or swirls. I know that's what you've heard on the car forums, but it's not true.

Remove them properly and then the finish with be astounding.

The engine and transmission were not touched, but that's pretty much all that was not touched. The Recaro SRD seats were stolen ($1,500 per seat for the drivers and passengers seat, and $2,000 for the rear seat assembly), and the front lip was stolen ($1000 painted), and the spoiler was stolen, and the wheels were stolen (a whopping $475 each without tire at the dealership), the Type-R front strut tower bar ($200), the shift boot and shift knob ($300), and a bunch of other crap. I am scared of parking the ITR on the street, my friends think I'm stupid that I only park in certain areas.

I may re-start and try to get out all the swirls. What is a sure-fire way of removing Zaino?

Isopropyl alcohol.

You might want to try 3M SMR for the swirls- I did that followed by Zaino and WOW!

Looks like you're well on your way.:up

That price seems a little high for sure. I paid a whopping $200 for that very same front spoiler (painter) from the dealer. Other prices are pretty much spot on!!!!! That's why they steal them.:angry

Sorry, I meant to say front bumper, including the front spoiler lip. I don't think they took the headlights though.

Yeah, the headlights are a dime a dozen. Again, that sounds about right for the bumper and spoiler painted. These little cars are expensive to fix!!

I agree. Do the prep work and then put the Z2 on when the paint is flawless. Forget Z5.

What were they thinking? The motor and trans are probably the most important parts of the Type R. Good news for you as you didn't have to find the correct motor for the car. Did you get the car at an insurance auction? Thought about doing that myself, especially the flood damaged cars. I guess once the car gets flooded, its considered totalled, even if the instrusion is only over the door sills. Nice car BTW.
