Zaino Z2 prep

I'm gonna be trying some Z2 for the first time soon.

I was wondering which other brand paint cleaners would work with the Z2. Any suggestions?

I know some Autopians have used Klasse AIO as base. I have some 4* Ultimate Paint Cleanser that I haven't tried yet - would this be suitable? I want to avoid a dish-detergent wash if I can.

AIO and p21s are my personal choices when I use a paint cleaner. To maximize durabilty you might want to use Z2 straight on a squeeky clean surface. You can use those paint cleaners and it will look great, but many people like the look of Zaino w/o cleaners too. I'd suggest trying both combo's over time if you already have the cleaners, but also try it w/o cleaners.

Hehe you sound as cautious as me pugoman :) I am waiting for my prep chemicals to arrive before I too use Z2 for the first time. On reading various threads here, it would seem that AIO is a good prep for Z2 but so is Menzerna which is what I am going with.

I do believe the single most important thing is the preperation though, and using a detergent (fairy liquid) or something as a *one time* wash won't do any damage to your car. Zaino recommed this type of wash simply to remove the layers of wax or unwanted product that might deter Z from 'bonding' to the cars surface. I will probably wash mine (for the first time ever) with a dish wash detergent.

I reckon your paint cleanser will be fine too, regardless of whether you avoid the detergent wash or not.

Please post some pics (before and after if you can) when you do this, I will do the same once I am ready to go ... can't wait for a decent UK weekend!

Axe, I dont know how much of a difference you will see in pugoman's car, as it's gleaming at the moment from the UPP he's put on it. Gonna be good to see if that peugeot silver can look any better, PM.

Polishes may be needed to properly prepare your car's surface before applying Z2, or any wax or sealant.

Just my $.02

Exactly why I want him to post before and afters

Here's my car at the moment with Klasse AIO and UPP x2.

I'm not expecting Zaino to blow me away, but I'm an 'Autopian' - I just have to try it! :D

wow that has a real glow to it, and I can appreciate how hard that is to do on Silver and capture it on film!

AIO will work extremely well as a base. As long as you avoid products with oils or fillers Zaino should bond fine.

I'd recommend polishing out the surface before going at it, though. Zaino's unforgiving when it comes to defects.

Very little in the way of defects in my paintwork. I've done alot of prep work and tried alot of products over the last few months, so it'll be just a case of giving the paintwork a good clean to remove all previous products.

Nothing.....I wash....then apply.....

If I see a mark or two after cleaning...then I work on those separately.....to repair..then clean area with some alcohol...abd then water..and then go on to Z2 or Z5...

Preping for Zaino is really no different then preping for any other sealant.

Get the surface to point that you happy with the amount of defects that can be seen.

Remove as many oils from the surface as possible to ensure maximum adhension of the sealant to the clear coat.

Many here are finding that AIO is a great chemical cleaner and an excellent base for Zaino.

Axe... where did you get your Zaino from? Advanced Car Products by any chance? If so, what was their delivery charge?

Hi Pugoman, yes from advanced car, and the delivery was 1.95 I think, though I threw the receipts away so not totally sure ... any particular reason ?

pugoman-based on that picture, nothing is going to blow you away. That is absolutely one of the best pictures of silver paint I've ever seen!

I'd just go with AIO then opinions vary as to whether you can go straight to Z2, or QD with Z6 or wash with Z-whatever-the-number-of-the-wash is before Z2.

I went straight to Z2 after AIO and it seemed to work great. My brother just had his van washed today (it is about the 6 week point now) and he said it was beading like crazy and looks real good still.

Pugoman : Hehehe.... I have to agree with Scottwax, I'm not sure anyone or any product is going to significantly better the finish you already have, it's just stunning!

Good luck with the Zaino, let us know how you like it
