Zaino weekend plan, your thoughts?

I'm a total Zaino newbie, so I'd like some feedback on my detailing plans for this weekend:

Saturday:

1. Dawn wash

2. Possibly clay (AutoMagic clay) - not sure about this yet

3. Dawn wash (if I clayed)

4. 2-3 coats of Z5+ZFX with Z6 in between and after

Sunday:

5. Z7 wash

6. 2 coats Z5+ZFX with Z6 in between and after

7. 1 coat Z2 -can I get away with not using ZFX for this step???

Would like to hear all suggestions, especially regarding:

Is this too much Z for one weekend?

Can I do without ZFX on step 7?

Should I only do Z5 and get to Z2 next weekend?

Thanks!

I would replace step 3 Dawn wash with a Z7 Wash. If you do a good job with the first dawn wash and the clay you should be able to wash with Z7.

Step 7 - I would use the ZFX and finish after the application of the Z2 with Z6. You could consider one or two less Z5 applications. It depends on how the car looks.

If the car's paint in is good shape now you may not need all the Z5. Z5 is to help fill swirl marks, Z2 has a higher optical quality, and Z6 makes the finish job slick - lowers the static and will reduce the amount of dust the car collects. Z6 is a great product. You will be able to tell the difference right away between the surfaces that have Z6 on them and those that don't.

I disagree, I would dawn wash at number three to remove any clay residue that may be present. For your first wash, use an ordinary car wash shampoo. The dawn is harsh, so I would only want to use it once.

Thanks for the replies; I'm kinda hoping that claying is not necessary ... maybe I'll just do the horizontal surfaces.

As far as the Z goes ... now I'm thinking of doing 3 coats of Z5+ZFX on Saturday and 3 coats of Z2+ZFX on Sunday...

Another question:

When doing 3 coats of Z; I was thinking of doing only 1 or 2 coats on the vertical surfaces of the truck, and only doing 3 on the hood and roof. Any comments?

Thanks again,

1.) In regards to the Dawn wash - If it is the first time you are appling Z than it is recommended to wash with Dawn to strip all the old wax (carnauba) off.

2.) Although not necessarily required it is recommended to wash with Z7 or some other soap that is designed for automobiles prior to useing Z.

3.) Z is easy to put on and easy to take off. There is not much time savings by doing just one on the sides. IMHO put three on everywhere. Three coats of Z will make the car real sharp, and it was after the thrid coat that my cars really looked different. Z will layer which is nice and is why multiple coats will enhance the look that you receive.

Z is a great product. When I started to use Z it was the first time I got complements on my cars shine. My wife just receive complements on her car's shine and I have not put Z on it since September. It has been a light winter for us, and I wash it with Z7.

Have fun.

I know I probably should do 3 coats everywhere; but to me, the sides of my truck represent a hefty chunk of acreage. Oh well, gotta suck it up I guess.

BTW, yet another question:

Which Z (2 or 5) is recommended for chrome? I've got chrome bumpers front and rear and chrome nerf bars as well. Should I use whichever Z I'm applying to the paint at the time, or is there a particular reason to use one over the other on chrome?

Thanks!

Apply what ever you are appling to the paint at the time. You can use either, but you will most likely not see any difference between z5 or z2 on the chrome. The z on the chrome will make them easier to clean.

The biggest benefit from the z is the easy of cleaning the car. I have found that my cars clean up much easier with Z.
