Zaino vs Poorboy's

Car Detailing Whore
Allright, I had a bit of free time (plus my sprayers came in) so I decided to do a side by side comparison of Zaino & PB on the hood of a 2000 Red 325i BMW.

Here is what each side received.

Left - Zaino:
1. Clean with S&W
2. Clay with Clay Magic
3. Z-1
4. Z-3

Right - PB:
1. Clean with S&W
2. Clay with Clay Magic
3. SSR2 - Terry
4. SSR1 - Terry
5. Pro Polish - Terry
6. PwC - Foam
7. EX - PVC

Here are the results, I think I should have taken after images in the shade.

Well, it's hard to tell the difference............ especially in a picture. Only you'll know if there's a real difference.

FWI, the Z3 is for non-clear coated paints, and is different than the Z2 or Z5.

I know, but Z-3 was all I had, its useful on my dad's 72 Corvette.

There is NO discernable difference. I think I saw a SLIGHT bit more clarity in the EX, but very very very very very inconspicous.

Also, the SSR2 did not get rid of all the swirls. I tried it to my best ability, but could not gain any effect.

Did you do tthe SSR2 by hand, or buffer?

Doesn't sound like a very fair test to me. You do two levels of swirl removal AND a polishing on the PB's side and nothing on the Zaino side and you say the results were equal? I can only imagine what the differences might of been had you hit the Z side with the same prep as the PB side.

Im using only products made by companies. Zaino only makes a very very very micro-abrasive swirl remover, that in my mind, is a complete waste of money.

So therefore, the Zaino side was only treated with Z-1.

And Boss, this was done by hand.

Test does not exactly compare the realistic results, one side preped, the other side no prepping..., and the Zaino side looks as god even with no prepping..., Hmmm, whats wrong with this picture?

BTW, Zaino has abrasives.

Interesting test there Tass. But, IMO, Z and PB products are sort of apples and oranges.

If you endeavor to try again say, on the decklid or something try repeating the same Z steps and for the PB side only do;

SW
clay
SSR1 or Pro with terry pad
PWC with foam

That way you are using two Z products and two PB products.

Funny thing is even though you used 2 Z steps compared to all those PB steps I'd be willing to bet the PB side took less time from start to finish.

Still, interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing the test with us. BTW..that beemer looks great!

Yeah the Z-1 took forever to haze. Plus it smelled like death in a bottle.

SSR2 smells mucho good though.

There are no interior shots, because the interior is not done.

Take before and after pics of the Interior after you do the Simple Green Vinyl and Carpet cleaning in your Mustang.

The car looks great I cant really tell a difference on either side I wonder if you would notice if you topped one side with a carnuba.

I think what depresses me the most is that even AFTER I did the work, there was not the slightest discernable difference. The surface was actually smoother before than it was after (next time im doing SSR1 AFTER Pro Polish). The shine did not change in the sligtest way.

Sigh.

Don't get depressed because you can't do the impossible. It is virtually impossible to work on black or red without a PC at the very least. I guess if you want to spend 4 hours polishing the hood you can get swirls out, but I think your arms would give out long before that. Save up and get a PC if you want results. It's not that expensive for a basic set up. Face it - how much can you buy for $200 nowdays? Like one dinner for 2 at a good restaurant. For that money you can have a PC and a nice supply of pads.

Ive been looking at CMA for a PC. My problem is that I keep saying "Hey! I need to get some of that!" or " That looks intresting"

Detailing is a curse, a curse I love to have!

Tass - you keep thinking you need "this and that" because you aren't getting the results you want by hand. Once you get the PC, you will be able to get great results with ANY decent SWR and wax so you won't be searching for the magic bullet product. I used to buy every product too, but once I got my PC I basically settled into Poorboys Pro Polish and EX. It gives me just about everything I need. If I use anything else, it's only to correct a problem or use up what I have.

Hi all, newbie here...

I just bought the PC 7336 (with foam pad), at Lowes for $109.00...I had to pay tax, but, saved money by not having to pay for shipping. I then spent just as much on the velcro backing plate, pads, compounds, etc. as I did for the PC.

I just got a new '03 F-150 King Ranch and can't wait to go to work on it with the PC!

This looks like a great forum with loads of good information!
