Zaino topping experiment results...

Hello all,

As I've been itching to try, I went and topped the 2 layers of Z2 that was on the Astro with 2 coats of Mothers Pure Carnauba Wax.

Now I know this isn't highly recommended(that's why it was on the Astro:D ), but the results speak for themselves. Although the Zaino's reflectivity was somewhat 'muffled', the reflections are much deeper now, and it deepened the paint's color. So far, I love it! I will speak of durability later, when I finally see how carnauba will affect the underlying Zaino.:xyxthumbs

If this little experiment works out well, then I might just have to stop by the Harley Shop for some S100 for the PT. :D

The pics speak for themselves, although I apologize as the camera somewhat dulled the color. It's darker in real life. Still, not bad for a 7 yr old van that's outside 24/7, eh?

Sorry about that first pic. I don't know why it won't load. Oh well, if you really want to see it, you can cut and paste the address, I guess.:D

drewski59,

I fixed the link for the picture so that it will display correctly. Some photo hosting sites use characters in the URL for the picture that confuse the vB code parser (like the URL for your first pic). The fix for this when editing your post is to use the HTML image tag instead of vB code, like this:

vB code and HTML will mix without a problem, so you don't have to change how you write the rest of your post (i.e., italics, bolding, font size changes, etc. can still be in vB code).

I also use a topper on my Zaino. I started using S100 on my Zaino a few weeks ago and I am very pleased with the results so far.

I figure I will strip everything off a couple of times a year anyway so I will be able to refresh the Zaino for protection and keep the s100 for the deep shine.

Looks nice!

I've topped Z with a few pure carnauba products with fairly good results, but IN MY OPINION I prefer the straight Z to the muted and less clear and sharp reflections of the topper coat. The carnauba just seems to muffle and slightly distort the bright optically clear shine that Z was intended for, and that's what I like, the pure Z shine on my car. At least this is what I always noticed when topping. Also, in the long run, I was afraid the heavy solvents, oils, and silicones would begin to break the Z down. The look can be different, if that's what you're after. So, IMHO, the very very slight increase in depth from the top coat just isn't worth it to me. I think if you're looking for a different kind of shine and don't intend on applying more Z often, it may be worth it.

:)

Thanks a lot, Tort!:wavey

So far, I really like the look a lot. Like I said, I will see how the Z holds up on the van before I'll try it on the PT.:D

So far so good, but only time will tell...;)

I was thinking of topping my zaino with some carnuba, but would I be able to put a layer of zaino on top of that? You know, start with zaino for a few months, then apply carnuba for a week or two, then zaino again on top of that? Doesn't sound like it would work that way, huh?:nixweiss

d_o_a96,

That's correct - the Zaino won't bond to carnauba, so you would have to strip the carnauba before adding any more layers of Z.

I would use a Dawn wash for this so that you wouldn't be stripping any Zaino along with the carnauba.
